as someone who works for richard childress at his winery, i hear the scoops all the time, sometimes the info is useful, but i must say i root against his cars all the time. i hate rcr go figure!! anyhow his drivers are always very consistant

but my prediction is this year the man mark martin gets his win, a very steady driver with a good car and engine at this race, without a wreck he should get a top 5 even though with it being restrictr plt race the last lap can be a crap shoot if there is a wreck in the last 5 laps

so here it goes

1.mark martin crafty vet knows what to do, he takes the checkrd
2.kyle busch guy just drives his ass off everywhere
3.dale j.r good engine should stay up front most of day
4.jeff burton will be patient and run in top 10 most of the day
5.greg biffle aggressive guy who will gamble to get up front, expect him to make a late push and get a top 5

hmm, I was looking at Biffle. He Was -140 vs. Kahne in a Match-up
Now he is down to -130

given that restrictor plate is such a crapshoot i won't be laying much on this race.. if i was to pick 10 i'd go with the following

hendrick: gordon, jr, jj & mark martin.. martin had the strongest car of duel 2 IMO.. gordon took duel 1.. teamwork can be huge in this race.

JGR: kb, hamlin & logano.. kb is live to win any race he's in .. hamlin was strong during duel 2.. logano kinda got lucky as he ran near the back for alot of duel 1 but i'd take him anyways because of the team factor.. logano taking the 500 would be some sort of epic nascar fairy tale that they could market for the next 5 decades.

to round out the 10 i'd take
- montoya : getting better and better with each restrictor plate race he's in..
- tony stewart : great duel. i kinda wish he won duel 1 with a push from logano..
- kasey kahne : random pick, it is restrictor plate after all..

Good post sinnedsoul. Forget Logano even if you believe the hype. Restrictor Daytona is a last lap crapshoot race for experienced engineering horsepower (ie Hendricks) drivers with 'friends'. Factor in recession-drained money across the circuit and I'm leaning toward the last standing (Hendricks). I like the old school Martin pick with horsepower, but my dollars have to be on the wily experienced last lap magician 24 (he put it on two wheels at 180 mph on the curve to beat Dale Sr in '99). Generally agree with ck regarding Dale Jr (whole 'nother subject).

I like Nascar and have been to some big races in my time. Kinda grew out of it over the years as it seems to be the same thing week after week but at a different location. Green flag, caution, pit stop, restart, another caution, pits for tires and gas, etc, repeat process until you have a winner. The Daytona 500 is the biggest of them all, what the SuperBowl is to NFL, and The Masters is to golf. It is good for America. To have it this time of year makes everyone think about sunny Florida and how warm it is down there. The Daytona 500 is part of Americana and each year, even though I don't follow NASCAR like I used to, I will make an effort to watch just because it's THE DAYTONA 500. As a driver, I have always pulled for Bobby Labonte. Edwards, Martin, Earnhardt, Busch, all run good in FLA. Should be another "GOOD UN" as we say down south. Ya'll Enjoy.
