Whormoan: So you are saying if a book doesn't compensate you for calling in a bad line then you are okay to bet into that line? That is honestly what you are saying? That is truly scum of the earth piece of shit mentality.

Absolutely. However, most of my 9-10 books do compensate and are rewarded for their good customer service.

What you are referring to is not Customer Service, it's called "bribing", as in "bribing you not to steal".

cancelled

Punter: besides cancelling the bet, was your honesty for sending the email rewarded? a Bonus Play, or betpoints (if applicable), or at the very least by some goodwill built up with management? If not, this strikes me as a strategic mistake by management. While I doubt most of us expect a book to honor an obviously reversed line, particularly if the cancellation occurs before the game starts, if management doesn't give you something to recognize your outstanding ethics, then they're just begging for you, and by extention those that read this thread, NOT to alert them in the future.

If it were my call, I'd allow the bet of the first person to alert me to the reversed line to stand at the advantageous line (unless it's for a maxed amnt -- in which case i lower it, but still keep it). Otherwise, a book's just asking to be the last people in the know, which will cause them no end of angry clients and reputational harm. So, punter, did you really get nothing for such commendable honesty?

Sorry, it occurs to me that my last post was poorly crafted at the end. I had absolutely no desire to sound suspicious or accusatory toward punter in the least. With the board's permission, please allow me to change the last sentence i wrote to:

"So, punter, did you really get nothing for such commendable honesty, because if so, you got hosed (IMHO)".

Sorry for any confusion, punter. Thanks, all.

Just by reading this post I can see that you have no clue what "outstanding ethics" or "commendable honesty" actually mean.

99% of the books I've used (which haven't been all that many) have let me cancel plays within 30-45 min. if I notice I've made the wrong play. If a line moves 10 points you really expect them to let you cancel it? That's justification for betting into a bad line? They clearly would think you are canceling your bet due to the line movement or other reasons aside from a misplaced bet.

Every book I have ever worked at have done this for clients, you are right about major line moves and its just stupid the amount of players that notice their mistake right after the line jumps significantly. Ten to fifteen minutes is the normal window for wager editing/deleting, for customers who dont have a history of being a dirtbag the book will often extend this window and even sometimes fix you up even if the line has moved significantly.
