Don't rent a car for the week. The strip is only three miles from Tropicana to Sahara. You can walk, take a cab or newtram. Most of your activity will be at Flamingo/Strip or Trop/Strip. Only a mile between.
If you want to take a trip to clear your head go to Valley of Fire and Mt. Charleston. You can be in the snow in about 45 minutes. Highly reccomended. The view from there is nauseating though. The smog is thick from the pollution and esp the chimney pollution. They will probably run warnings for the locals not to fire up their chimneys. Just hope its not too cold. The temp really drops at nite. When I lived there the fountains froze at the Mirage. That was a fluke, but definetly bring a warm jacket for New Years eve outside.

Kyhawk- Remember when we there in the winter of 1981? Everybody was wearing long sleves and/or coats and we were in short sleves and thought it was perfect out.

ps- Of course, we just left a blizzard and -20 wind chill back in Iowa.

Our first experience with Vegas. Just think how different our lives would be if we never had the taste.

Bozzi being 20 you may run into problems. Some of these door guys can be real dicks.Be ready to grease these guys at the door. They do card here.

Angelle has listed some good places.I'll add a couple more even though I really hate nightclubs now.

RA at the Luxor
Rain or Ghost Bar at the Palms
Rum Jungle at Mandalay Bay

There is a shitload of places, you will find your way when you get here.

And finally a trip to vegas is not complete, especially if it is your first, without a trip to one of these:

Cheetas
Crazyhorse
Spearmint Rhino

Have a great time, Bozzi. Here are a few things that I have not seen yet mentioned that might be of interest.

If you have some money to spend on a show, or can hook up with a date, I would recommend the Mystere' show (I think at Treasure Island) or the O show (I think at the Bellagio)...have not been for a couple of years and they may have something new and updated. They are truly amazing shows, although they run about $75 or so, as I recall. Check into them if that is something you might consider, although maybe not something you want to do with buddies, probably more of a date kind of thing. Another kind of offbeat thing was the jousting dinner show at The Excalibur...pretty cool. Also did the Ceasar's Palace dinner/magic show which cost a little but was kind of fun. If you are a Star Trek fan, there is The Star Trek Experience, which despite my resistance initially proved to be pretty fun. They have a neat bar after the "experience" that is themed after the show with some crazy drinks, etc.

For a welcoming youthful (most of the time) casino crowd, you might stop in at Bally's. It is bright, fun and just has an upbeat feel to it. For a unique sportsbook flavor, maybe show up in the morning at The Imperial Palace...it has the feel of a local bookie shop to me, the guys writing the stuff on the board, yelling to the backroom, true gamblers coming in, checking numbers, moving on. Not like the beautiful sportsbooks of course, but a fun way to start the day. I felt somehow smarter and more prepared after that...lol.

Vegas has really made strides to offer more than just gambling, and you really can find a lot to do there other than that. Of course, I prefer to do otherwise for a good part of the time, but there is more to life than watching cards fall sometimes.

Many things suggested before me are great...the Water Show at Bellagio is really cool, they have 7 different shows or something like that. Gotta love the House of Blues.

Have a great time. Get some rest before you go. You won't sleep much when you get there, as the bells will never leave your head.

Microbrews at Ellis Island???
What so you can get some crack and hookers on the side, Fish, lol.
There are plenty of other microbrews in town.

You want a good beer and bar atmosphere, take a cab to the Crown and Anchor.

Lived in vegas too long- I'm with you Ellis Island??? It'd be easier to just roll around in an ashtray and spend the night in your local trailer park- Crown and Anchor is cool I agree but if you are just visiting vegas why bother with a regular bar anyway? If the idea is brewery or microbrew you can go to the Monte Carlo Pub/Brewery in the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino- it's cool and a tad nicer than Ellis Island, no offense.

Yea, it's "fun" to read and brutally honest in almost every respect. If I get bored I go there and read just for the laughs. I'm glad you liked it.
