As for being snappy, don't worry about it. Moderating big boards like these can be extremely stressful because staff members are often a target for people. Add to that how much shit you let people get away with at times, trying to be the nice guy behind the scenes, and then have it turned around to seem like you are the bad guy, and it's completely understandable if you get annoyed at times.
