Co-Captain, I also liked the Browns at first glance as STL last few road games were come from behind wins against the hapless Bears and Cardinals. They obviously have trouble on the road.
While the Rams give up 122 yards rushing, Cleveland only rushes for 88 yards themselves. Cleveland Defense also gives up 119 yards rushing, while the Rams rush for 92 yards per game. So each team's rushing attack vs the other teams rush stop unit is practically identical and there's no real advantage.
Cleveland passes for 188 yds per game and ranked 19th. Rams are 11th against the pass giving up 189. Rams passing for 261 and is 2nd in the league. Cleveland is 4th vs the pass giving up 178. But the 4th vs the pass can be misleading....
Misleading because the Problem with the Browns is similar to what Broken said, specifically the most recent result against Seattle. They gave up 306 yards passing to Seattle and 348 yards passing against the Chiefs. Both teams ranked lower in passing than the Rams. Here is their schedule and yards passing given up year-to-date. Notice the teams they've held to low passing numbers. That's why the results are skewed:
Game 1, Colts, 204 yds, #1 pass offense
Game 2, Ravens, 50 yds, #32 pass offense
Game 3, S.F., 190 yds, #14 pass offense
Game 4, Cincy, 215 yds, #11 pass offense
Game 5, Pitt, 149 yds, #10 pass offense
Game 6, Oak, 164 yds, #25 pass offense
Game 7, S.D., 61 yds, #23 pass offense
Game 8, N.E., 253 yds, #9 pass offense
Game 9, K.C., 348 yds, #4 pass offense
Game 10, Ariz, 146 yds, #21 pass offense
Game 11, Pitt, 59 yds, #10 pass offense
Game 12, Sea, 306 yds, #8 pass offense
Back in week one, they did an excellent job against what is now the top ranked pass offense. But that was 3 months ago. Look at the bad teams/offenses they've gone against. Then Look at teams like KC and Seattle. Both recent and both are teams with a similar offense to the Rams and look at the yards given up. Definitely something to keep in mind when looking at numbers.
Rams are the 2nd highest Scoring team in the league, Cleveland is ranked last in scoring offense and should be a cause for concern for Browns backers. The offense is pathetic and too anemic to bet on. The good thing for Brown backers??? Home dogs have done great, they should carry emotion from the crowd and they have played well at home DEFENSIVELY. Martz will usually outsmart himself and bungle a play or two that may keep Cleveland in the game. Rams have indeed struggled on the road against teams similar to the Browns (Bears and Cardinals). Ofcourse, the Browns, Bears, and Everyone else in the league has a better scoring offense than Cleveland.
Just passing on some info you may find useful. Good luck with your play!!
