[h=1]Preview: Indians at Red Sox[/h]Gracenote
Aug 14, 2017

The Boston Red Sox began their hot streak the last time Cleveland was in town and hope to win for the 11th time in 12 contests when the Indians return on Monday for the makeup of a rained-out game on Aug. 2. The Red Sox scored 18 times in beating Cleveland twice to start the run and have built their lead in the American League East to 5 ½ games after edging the New York Yankees in 10 innings on Sunday.

Andrew Benintendi has played a big part in Boston’s surge, going 13-for-27 with four homers and 11 RBIs during a seven-game hitting streak while driving in the winning run in Sunday's 3-2 win. Trevor Bauer looks to stay on a roll when he takes the mound for Cleveland on Monday opposite veteran Doug Fister, who handcuffed the Indians the last time they visited Beantown. Cleveland took the final three contests of its four-game set in Tampa Bay over the weekend to increase its lead in the AL Central to 4 ½ games and new acquisition Jay Bruce made an immediate impact by going 5-for-12 with three RBIs. Francisco Lindor has hit safely in six straight contests and fellow All-Star Jose Ramirez is riding a five-game hitting streak for the Indians.

TV: 6:10 p.m. ET, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Trevor Bauer (10-8, 4.79 ERA) vs. Red Sox RH Doug Fister (2-5, 5.03)

Bauer is 3-0 over his last four starts, allowing six runs while registering 28 strikeouts over 27 innings. The 26-year-old UCLA product, who has fanned 133 batters over 120 1/3 frames, settled for a no-decision against Colorado on Wednesday, when he permitted one run and seven hits across seven innings. Mookie Betts is 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a homer versus Bauer, who is 0-2 with a 12.91 ERA versus Boston.

Fister has posted wins in his last two starts - the first against the Indians on July 31, when he yielded two runs and five hits over 7 2/3 innings. The 33-year-old Californian limited the Chicago White Sox to three runs and eight hits with a season-high seven strikeouts to win last time out. Jason Kipnis is 12-for-27 with a pair of doubles against Fister, who is 6-4 with a 3.07 ERA in 17 career starts versus the Indians.

WALK-OFFS

1. Kipnis (hamstring) came off the bench to go 0-for-2 on Sunday after missing the previous two games and could start Monday.

2. Boston 3B Rafael Devers homered in the ninth inning on Sunday to tie the game and is batting .328 with four blasts and 10 RBIs in his first 15 major-league contests.

3. Cleveland LHP Andrew Miller (knee) threw a bullpen session without complications on Sunday, but no timetable has been set for his return.

GAME: New York Mets (53-62) at New York Yankees (61-55)
DATE/TIME: Monday, August 14 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

[h=1]Preview: Mets at Yankees[/h]Gracenote
Aug 14, 2017

The New York Yankees were unable to gain any ground in the American League East over the weekend, but they still lead the wild-card race as they enter the four-game Subway Series, which begins when they host the New York Mets on Monday. The Yankees lost the final two contests of their three-game series against Boston to fall 5 1/2 games behind the division-leading Red Sox but still hold a 1 1/2-game advantage over the Los Angeles Angels for the first AL wild card.

The Yankees managed only five hits in Sunday's 10-inning setback, which was their eighth loss in 12 games this month. Rookie Aaron Judge leads the AL with 35 home runs but has gone deep just once in his last 11 contests. The Mets beat up on major league-worst Philadelphia over the weekend, winning three of four in the series - including a 6-2 decision on Sunday in which Curtis Granderson finished a triple shy of the cycle, drove in three runs and scored three times. Michael Conforto has homered in five of his last eight contests and leads all active Mets with 26 blasts.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, SNY (Mets), YES (Yankees)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Rafael Montero (1-8, 6.06 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Luis Cessa (0-3, 4.83)

Montero is winless in his last six starts, including a loss to Texas on Wednesday in which he yielded four runs on five hits and three walks over three innings. The 26-year-old Dominican has suffered four losses since registering his lone victory of the season at San Francisco on June 25, when he allowed one run in 5 2/3 frames. Montero made his major-league debut against the Yankees, taking the loss after giving up three runs in six innings on May 14, 2014.

Cessa is expected be brought up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make his fifth start of the season and first since July 18, when he escaped with a no-decision after surrendering three runs on four hits and four walks across 3 2/3 innings at Minnesota. The 25-year-old Mexican has not pitched for the Yankees since working 3 1/3 scoreless frames of relief on July 30 against Tampa Bay. Cessa will be facing the Mets for the first time in his career.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees C Gary Sanchez has gone 7-for-19 with two homers and three RBIs during his five-game hitting streak.

2. The Mets purchased the contract of RHP Kevin McGowan from Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday to fill the empty roster spot created by Saturday's trade of 2B Neil Walker to Milwaukee.

3. The Yankees recalled LHP Caleb Smith from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioned RHP Giovanny Gallegos to the RailRiders.

[h=1]Preview: Rays at Blue Jays[/h]Gracenote
Aug 13, 2017

The Tampa Bay Rays will welcome a short road trip after a disastrous homestand as they visit the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday to open a critical four-game series between American League East rivals. The Rays scored just 11 times during a 2-7 homestand after dropping a 4-3 decision to Cleveland on Sunday and have registered the least runs in the majors since the All-Star break.

Steven Souza Jr. belted a two-run homer off Corey Kluber to tie the contest Sunday before the bullpen gave up one more tally as Tampa Bay fell under .500 (59-60) for the first time since June 7 and two games back in the race for the AL's second wild-card. Jake Odorizzi attempts to remain unbeaten against the Blue Jays this year (3-0, 3.12 ERA in four starts) and the slumping Rays' offense will try to get better against Nick Tepesch, who makes his third start of the season - second for Toronto. The Blue Jays (56-61) are on the fringe of a crowded AL wild-card race after winning seven of their last 11 games in August, capped by a 7-1 triumph against Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon with the aid of three homers. All-Star first baseman Justin Smoak is warming up again for Toronto, recording six hits in 12 at-bats in his last three games with four runs scored and a homer.

TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), Sportsnet (Toronto), TVA Sports (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Jake Odorizzi (6-5, 4.38 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Nick Tepesch (0-2, 9.00)

Odorizzi allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks over four innings Wednesday before he was hit on the foot by a line drive and had to leave the game. The Illinois native has not completed five innings in three of his last four starts but appears ready to go after completing a bullpen session. Kendrys Morales is 6-for-12 with a homer versus Odorizzi, who is 5-2 with a 3.23 ERA in 14 games against Toronto.

Tepesch gave up five runs, eight hits (three homers) and one walk across 4 1/3 innings to the New York Yankees on Wednesday in his first start with the Blue Jays after being acquired from Minnesota. The 28-year-old had made one start with the Twins earlier this season, permitting seven runs (one earned) while registering only five outs on May 6 against Boston. Trevor Plouffe is 2-for-6 with a homer versus Tepesch, who is 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA in two games against the Rays.

WALK-OFFS

1. Souza is 13-for-35 with a homer, seven RBIs and 12 walks against the Blue Jays in 2017 as the teams have split 12 games.

2. Toronto placed RHP Dominic Leone on the bereavement list Sunday and recalled LHP Matt Dermody from Triple-A Buffalo.

3. Tampa Bay 1B/DH Lucas Duda is 0-for-15 his last five games and 2B Brad Miller went 1-for-12 with eight strikeouts in the last series.

[h=1]Preview: Giants at Marlins[/h]Gracenote
Aug 14, 2017

Giancarlo Stanton seems to be matching or breaking records on a daily basis lately, and the Miami Marlins are all too happy to go along for the ride. The Marlins seek their fourth straight victory Monday when they open a three-game set at home against the San Francisco Giants.

Stanton became the second player in club history to hit 40 home runs Friday, delivered a three-run blast Saturday to become the first player to reach the 100-homer plateau at Marlins Park and tied Gary Sheffield's team record for most in a season (42) on Sunday as Miami completed a weekend sweep of Colorado. The four-time All-Star's last blast also gave him 250 homers in 941 career games, making him the sixth-fastest player in major-league history to reach that mark since 1913. Stanton, who has homered in four straight and 21 times in 33 contests, slugged three home runs from July 7-9 during a three-game sweep in San Francisco, which is 3-8 on the road since the All-Star break and 20-40 away from home overall. The Giants lost two of three over the weekend in Washington and may be a bit weary after logging 20 innings while splitting a doubleheader with the Nationals on Sunday.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco), FSN Florida (Miami)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Ty Blach (8-7, 4.15 ERA) vs. Marlins LH Adam Conley (4-5, 5.43)

Blach has worked at least seven innings in each of his last five starts and won the last two, allowing two runs apiece in home victories against the Oakland Athletics on Aug. 3 and the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. The Denver native has been able to enjoy success despite only striking out 63 in 128 innings in part because he has kept the ball in the park (10 homers allowed). Blach is 3-3 with a 5.06 ERA in 11 appearances (seven starts) away from home as he faces Miami for the first time.

Conley was handed his second loss in as many starts Wednesday at Washington, surrendering five runs on a career-high tying 11 hits and three walks across five innings. The outing marked the second straight time the 27-year-old Washington State product failed to last six innings after he did so in each of his three July turns, during which he went 2-0 with a 1.74 ERA. Conley did not factor into the decision in his only career start against San Francisco last season despite giving up four runs in 5 2/3 frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. Stanton on Sunday joined Hall-of-Famer Frank Robinson as the 10th-youngest player to reach 250 career homers (27 years, 278 days).

2. San Francisco 2B Joe Panik will be re-evaluated Monday after taking a hard tag to the head during Sunday night's defeat.

3. Since Stanton moved into the No. 2 spot in the batting order on May 23, he is batting .296 with 31 homers and 60 RBIs in 69 starts.

[h=1]Preview: Tigers at Rangers[/h]Gracenote
Aug 13, 2017

The Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers were both sellers at the trade deadline and are a combined 15 games under 500, but an American League wild-card berth is still very much for the taking if one of them can catch fire soon. The Rangers eye their fourth win in five games Monday when they continue a 10-game homestand with the first of three against the Tigers.

Texas (56-60) traded away four-time All-Star right-hander Yu Darvish to the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 31 as the club made the decision to play for next year, but no AL team has been able to grab a firm hold of the second and final wild-card spot nearly two weeks later. The Rangers fell 2-1 against Houston on Sunday to miss out on a three-game sweep and find themselves 3 1/2 games behind the surging Los Angeles Angels for the second wild card. Detroit (53-64) dealt J.D. Martinez, Alex Avila and Justin Wilson in late July as it began its own rebuilding process, yet is somehow only seven games back of the Angels despite dropping seven of nine. Alex Presley enjoyed his third three-hit game in his last seven contests Sunday as the Tigers recovered from an early four-run deficit, but another poor effort from Bruce Rondon out of the bullpen cost them the rubber match of their three-game series with Minnesota.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, FSN Detroit, FSN Southwest (Texas)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Michael Fulmer (10-9, 3.59 ERA) vs. Rangers LH Martin Perez (6-10, 5.18)

Fulmer will start the opener after spending two weeks on the disabled list with ulnar neuritis. The 2016 AL Rookie of the Year labored in his last two road outings prior to his deactivation, giving up a total of 15 runs (11 earned) on 14 hits across 8 2/3 innings after yielding only 16 runs (14 earned) in his first 56 frames away from Detroit. Mike Napoli is 4-for-8 with two homers against Fulmer, who struck out nine in a four-hit shutout at Texas exactly one year ago.

After surrendering 15 runs over nine frames in his last two starts combined, Perez recorded his finest performance of the season Wednesday against the New York Mets while allowing one run on three hits across eight innings. The outing marked the first time the 26-year-old Venezuelan gave up fewer than five hits in any of his 22 turns this season. Perez, who permitted two runs in six frames and did not factor in the decision May 8, 2016 against Detroit, is 0-2 with a 7.27 ERA in four appearances (three starts) versus the Tigers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre went 2-for-3 with a homer Sunday and is batting .419 with three home runs and 11 RBIs during an eight-game hitting streak.

2. Rondon, who is 1-3 with a 10.91 ERA in 2017 after going 5-2 with a 2.97 ERA last season, was optioned to Triple-A Toledo following Sunday's game.

3. Texas relievers have not recorded a save at home since May 14 and four such saves for the season.

[h=1]Preview: Reds at Cubs[/h]Gracenote
Aug 14, 2017

Two last-place teams visit Wrigley Field this week, giving the first-place Chicago Cubs a chance to pad their lead in the National League Central. The Cubs look to increase their advantage in the tight division race when they begin a seven-game homestand on Monday with the opener of a four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cubs lead the NL Central by one game over St. Louis and are two ahead of Milwaukee but are in a great position to pull away with their next 13 contests against last-place teams, including seven versus Cincinnati. The Reds will try to play spoiler against a Cubs team that has dominated them of late, especially in the Windy City. Chicago leads the season series 6-3, including a three-game sweep at home in May, and has won 24 of the last 31 overall meetings. The Reds have played better of late, however, and had won three straight and four of five before dropping the final two contests of their three-game series at Milwaukee over the weekend.
TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, FSN Ohio (Cincinnati), WGN (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Asher Wojciechowski (3-1, 4.23 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Jose Quintana (6-10, 4.42)
Wojciechowski has won his first two starts since returning to the rotation. The 28-year-old took a shutout into the sixth inning before giving up a pair of homers in Wednesday’s win over San Diego - a triumph in which he allowed three runs and seven hits over 5 2/3 frames. Wojciechowski, who will make his Wrigley Field debut, has struggled to a 6.23 ERA on the road.
Quintana is winless in his last three starts, although he was a victim of poor run support in two of them. The 28-year-old allowed four runs - three earned - over six innings in a loss at San Francisco on Tuesday, posting his fourth quality start in five outings since being acquired from the crosstown White Sox. Quintana is 1-0 at home since joining the Cubs but struggled in his last start at Wrigley, allowing six runs and six hits - three homers - over five innings in a loss to Arizona.

WALK-OFFS
1. Cubs 3B Kris Bryant is 18-for-39 during his 10-game hitting streak and has reached base in 13 of his last 15 plate appearances.
2. Reds 3B Eugenio Suarez has reached base in 14 of his last 22 plate appearances.
3. Cubs SS Addison Russell (foot) was eligible to return from the 10-day disabled list on Saturday but may not be back during the seven-game homestand.

[h=1]Preview: Braves at Rockies[/h]Gracenote
Aug 13, 2017

The Colorado Rockies will receive a boost to their starting rotation and, far more importantly, an emotional lift when Chad Bettis takes the mound for the opener of a four-game set Monday against the Atlanta Braves. Bettis, a 14-game winner last year, makes his season debut after battling testicular cancer that required offseason surgery and chemotherapy earlier this year.

“What a great story for all of us,” Colorado manager Bud Black told reporters before Sunday’s game at Miami. “It has been just wonderful to watch.” Bettis joins a team tied with Arizona for the top National League wild-card spot, but Colorado has lost five of its past six after a 5-3 defeat Sunday in Miami capped a three-game sweep. The Braves ended a five-game losing streak Sunday and avoid a sweep at St. Louis with a 6-3 victory. Ender Inciarte finished 6-for-13 in the series and has recorded at least one hit in 16 of his past 17 contests.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, FSN Southeast (Atlanta), AT&T SportsNet - Rocky Mountain (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Julio Teheran (7-10, 5.25 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Chad Bettis (2016: 14-8, 4.79)

Teheran is struggling through the worst season of his career, owning personal-worst (for a full season) numbers for ERA, homers allowed (28) and strikeouts through per innings (seven). He is 3-6 in his past 12 starts, averaging less than six innings an appearance while posting a 5.64 ERA, 16 homers and a .831 opponents OPS. Teheran gave up five runs on seven hits in a loss to the Phillies on Tuesday, his fourth defeat in his past five outings.

Bettis made 32 starts a season ago, setting career highs in victories and innings pitched (186) in his fourth season in the majors. He pitched in six games (five starts) on a minor-league rehab assignment between Triple-A Albuquerque and Double-A Hartford, going 0-3 with a 4.24 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings. Bettis, who turned 28 years old in April, is 3-1 with a 4.75 ERA in six career appearances (five starts) against the Braves, including a 1-0 mark in two starts last season.

WALK-OFFS

1. Atlanta rookie 2B Ozzie Albies begins the week with a five-game hitting streak.

2. The Rockies received a scare when 3B Nolan Arenado left Sunday’s game with a bruised left hand after being hit with a pitch; X-rays were negative.

3. Colorado hitters are 5-for-39 with runners in scoring position in the past five games.

[h=1]Preview: Astros at Diamondbacks[/h]Gracenote
Aug 14, 2017

The Houston Astros ended their longest losing streak of the season last time out and hope to continue moving in a positive direction when they visit the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday for the opener of a four-game, home-and-home interleague series. The Astros lead the American League West by 12 games but had lost nine of 11 and five in a row before edging Texas 2-1 on Sunday.

Alex Bregman saw his 14-game hitting streak come to an end in the victory, but Jose Altuve continued his torrid hitting on the road, where he is batting a major league-best .420 with 51 runs scored in 56 contests. Collin McHugh takes the mound for the Astros against Arizona’s Zack Greinke in the opener as both teams bring impressive 9-1 interleague records into the series. The Diamondbacks need to turn things around as well after losing six of their last eight contests following a 7-2 setback against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, and they are even with Colorado for the two National League wild-card spots - 4 ½ games ahead of St. Louis. Paul Goldschmidt homered for the third time in five games Sunday to push his season total to 28 and has a .329 lifetime average against Houston with five homers and 13 RBIs in 23 contests.

TV: 9:40 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet-Southwest (Houston), FSN Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Collin McHugh (0-1, 5.32 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Greinke (13-5, 3.14)

McHugh suffered his first loss last time out, when he allowed seven runs on nine hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings against the Chicago White Sox after posting two straight quality starts. The 30-year-old Indiana native gave up three runs - two earned - and nine hits with 13 strikeouts across 12 frames in those two outings. Jake Lamb is 3-for-9 with a homer versus McHugh, who is 3-1 with a 3.54 ERA in four career games against Arizona.

Greinke has gone two games without a victory after issuing a season-high four walks while yielding three runs over 6 2/3 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last outing. The 33-year-old Floridian had gone 5-0 in a six-game span, permitting nine earned runs over 39 frames, before the last two winless starts. Altuve is 9-for-18 with a homer versus Greinke, who is 5-2 with a 2.66 ERA in eight career turns against the Astros.

WALK-OFFS

1. Arizona SS Ketel Marte has reached base in a career high-tying 13 consecutive games, going 15-for-43 in that span.

2. Houston INF Yuli Gurriel broke the franchise rookie record with his 31st double on Sunday, eclipsing Hunter Pence's mark (30 in 2007).

3. Arizona RF J.D. Martinez has recorded 17 hits since being acquired from Detroit and 11 have gone for extra bases, including seven homers.

[h=1]Preview: Royals at Athletics[/h]Gracenote
Aug 14, 2017

The Kansas City Royals appear to have put a difficult losing streak behind them and still find themselves right in the middle of a crowded wild-card race. Kansas City seeks its third straight victory when it begins a three-game series against the host Oakland Athletics on Monday.

The Royals had dropped 10 of 12 - a slump that included a five-game losing streak during which they allowed eight or more runs four times - before posting a pair of wins over the White Sox in Chicago, including a 14-6 triumph on Sunday. Drew Butera collected four hits while Whit Merrifield finished a double shy of the cycle and recorded a career-high five RBIs as Kansas City improved to 2-3 on its eight-game road trip and remained one game behind the Los Angeles Angels for the second wild card in the American League. Oakland rolled to a 9-3 win over Baltimore on Sunday to earn a split of the four-game series and move to 2-4 on its nine-game homestand. Rookie Matt Olson is swinging a hot bat for the Athletics as he has gone deep in each of his last three contests, driving in five runs in that span.

TV: 10:05 p.m. ET, FSN Kansas City, NBCSN California (Oakland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals RH Jake Junis (4-2, 4.70 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Jharel Cotton (5-9, 5.72)

Junis is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Omaha to make his 11th overall major-league appearance and eighth start in place of the injured Trevor Cahill. The 24-year-old rookie from Illinois was superb against Seattle on Aug. 6, allowing one run and four hits while striking out a career-high seven en route to victory. Junis made his major-league debut versus Oakland on April 12, when he gave up one hit and walked a pair in one scoreless frame of relief.

Cotton's winless streak reached four starts on Wednesday as he was tagged for six runs and eight hits - three homers - in six innings of a loss to Seattle. The 25-year-old Virgin Islander has not won since June 23, when he worked five scoreless frames against the White Sox in Chicago. Cotton was dominant in his first two career starts versus Kansas City, going 1-0 while allowing one earned run over 12 2/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Athletics rookie 3B Matt Chapman homered for the first time in eight games Sunday and is two away from becoming the seventh player to reach double digits with the team this season.

2. Butera has gone 8-for-18 over his last five contests.

3. Oakland DH Ryon Healy has recorded four multi-hit performances in his last six games.

[h=1]Preview: Phillies at Padres[/h]Gracenote
Aug 14, 2017

Following a series loss against the best team in baseball, the San Diego Padres return home to take on the sport's worst when they begin a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. The Padres took the opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers before dropping two straight over the weekend, including a 6-4 setback on Sunday despite two home runs by Cory Spangenberg.

It was the third straight series loss for San Diego, which has been held to four runs or fewer in seven of its last eight contests. Spangenberg and leadoff hitter Manuel Margot combined to go 10-for-24 with four homers in the series at Dodger Stadium. The Phillies lost three of four at home to the New York Mets and enter their seven-game trek with the worst road record in the majors (19-41). They've won the season series 10 straight times, but the Padres - who took two of three at Philadelphia in July - can end that streak with just one victory in this set.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, CSN Philadelphia, FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Jerad Eickhoff (3-7, 4.45 ERA) vs. Padres LH Travis Wood (2-4, 6.71)

Eickhoff's rebound from a rocky first few months continued at Atlanta on Wednesday, when he defeated the Braves by allowing two runs in 6 2/3 innings. He is 3-0 with a 3.10 ERA over a span of seven starts, which includes five scoreless frames and a season high-tying eight strikeouts in a home victory over the Padres on July 9. The Indiana native is 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA in three career starts against San Diego.

Wood has made three starts since being acquired from Kansas City, allowing 11 earned runs in 16 innings while registering 19 strikeouts. He recorded his second seven-strikeout performance with the Padres in Wednesday's loss to Cincinnati, which reached the veteran for six runs - five earned - in five frames. The 30-year-old owns a tidy 2.11 ERA in 10 career games (six starts) against the Phillies.

WALK-OFFS

1. Philadelphia CF Odubel Herrera went 1-for-2 in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Mets to extend his hitting streak to a career-best 16 games, the longest in a single season by a Phillie since Raul Ibanez had an 18-game run in 2010.

2. Margot has recorded six RBIs and scored six runs in his last nine contests.

3. The Phillies are 48-23 against the Padres since the start of the 2007 season.

Preview: Orioles at Mariners
Gracenote
Aug 14, 2017

The Seattle Mariners will try to recover from a dismal weekend against one wild card hopeful when they host another in the Baltimore Orioles on Monday for the opener of their three-game series. The Mariners lost four straight to the Los Angeles Angels - a sweep that was capped by Sunday's 4-2 defeat - and fell two games behind them in the race for the second wild-card spot in the American League.

The Orioles sit one-half game behind Seattle after splitting a four-game series in Oakland that concluded with a 9-3 setback on Sunday. Manny Machado stayed hot for Baltimore with three hits and is 7-for-14 with a homer, a triple and two doubles over his last three games. Machado has gone deep just once in 68 career at-bats at Safeco Field and is 1-for-6 against Yovani Gallardo, who gets the start for Seattle in the series opener. The Orioles counter with Kevin Gausman, who has posted a 5.86 ERA on the road.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, MASN (Baltimore), ROOT Northwest (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Kevin Gausman (8-8, 5.21 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Yovani Gallardo (5-7, 5.38)

Gausman was 3-0 with a 0.65 ERA over a dominant four-start stretch but took a step back his last time out against the Angels. The 26-year-old gave up four runs on eight hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings of his first loss since June 21. Gausman is 0-2 with a 3.20 ERA in three career starts against the Mariners, each of which took place at Safeco Field.

Gallardo has failed to complete six innings in five straight starts, allowing three runs over 4 1/3 frames in his most recent outing at Oakland. He has recorded 11 strikeouts and 12 walks over his last five appearances (four starts), serving up six home runs in that span. The veteran Mexican, who made 23 starts for the Orioles last year, has yielded three runs and six hits in 12 2/3 innings over two career starts versus Baltimore.

WALK-OFFS

1. Seattle has won eight of the last nine meetings, including six straight at home.

2. Orioles SS Tim Beckham was 0-for-4 on Sunday after recording a hit in each of his first 12 games since being acquired from Tampa Bay.

3. Mariners DH Nelson Cruz has notched at least one RBI in six straight contests and 14 of his AL-leading 94 over an eight-game stretch.
