Current Conditions - San Diego

CLOUDY 61 °F

5-Day Forecast GAME: Atlanta Braves (16-40) at San Diego Padres (23-35)
DATE/TIME: Monday, June 06 - 10:10 PM EST

The Atlanta Braves attempt to end a handful of losing streaks Monday as they continue their six-game road trip with the opener of a three-game series against the San Diego Padres. Atlanta dropped a 12-6 decision at Los Angeles on Sunday — a setback that completed a three-game sweep for the Dodgers and extended the Braves' road and overall slides to four games — and has lost 10 consecutive contests at Petco Park.

Nick Markakis collected three hits and two RBIs in Sunday's finale and hopes to produce another multi-hit performance as he is 2-for-2 lifetime against Padres starter Christian Friedrich. San Diego was thwarted in its attempt to sweep visiting Colorado as it suffered a 10-3 loss in the finale of the three-game set Sunday. Wil Myers homered and drove in two runs while Brett Wallace also went deep as the Padres fell to 3-2 on their eight-game homestand. Myers has been hitting in bunches of late, recording five multi-hit performances over his last seven contests while going 5-for-8 in the last two games.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Williams Perez (2-1, 3.86 ERA) vs. Padres LH Christian Friedrich (2-1, 2.53)

While Atlanta has won four of his five starts since returning from the minors, Perez has settled for no-decisions in his last two turns. The 25-year-old Venezuelan has yielded three earned runs or fewer in six of his eight outings this season and has kept the ball in the park, serving up only three home runs in 44 1/3 innings. Perez has split his two career starts against San Diego, allowing five runs — four earned — and 11 hits over 13 1/3 frames.

Friedrich has won each of his last two starts, receiving plenty of offensive support in the process as the Padres totaled 24 runs in the victories. After scattering three hits over seven scoreless innings of a 10-3 triumph at Arizona, the 28-year-old native of Illinois notched the win over Seattle on Wednesday despite yielding four runs — three earned — on nine hits and four walks over five frames. Friedrich has posted a 7.36 ERA in five career relief appearances against Atlanta, surrendering three runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings while with Colorado.

WALK-OFFS

1. Braves OF Jeff Francoeur is 12-for-29 over his last nine games.

2. San Diego RHP Erik Johnson, who was acquired from the Chicago White Sox in the deal for James Shields, is expected to debut with his new team Saturday in Colorado.

3. Atlanta has been outscored 26-8 during its four-game losing streak.

Preview: Rockies at Dodgers

Weather information is currently unavailable. 5-Day Forecast
GAME: Colorado Rockies (25-31) at Los Angeles Dodgers (31-27)
DATE/TIME: Monday, June 06 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

One day after ending their four-game skid, the Colorado Rockies attempt to halt the Los Angeles Dodgers' home winning streak and slow down Corey Seager on Monday as the National League West rivals begin a three-game series at Dodger Stadium. Colorado avoided being swept in San Diego on Sunday, topping the Padres 10-3 for just its second win in seven road contests.

Carlos Gonzalez posted his second multi-homer performance of the season with a pair of blasts and Nolan Arenado belted his 18th shot to grab a share of the major-league lead. The Rockies will have their hands full with Seager, who recorded five home runs and seven RBIs during Los Angeles' three-game sweep of Atlanta over the weekend. The 22-year-old, who leads the Dodgers with 14 blasts, has driven in 11 runs in his last six contests. Los Angeles will begin its first series of the post-Carl Crawford era as it parted ways with the veteran outfielder by designating him for assignment Sunday.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Tyler Chatwood (6-4, 2.99 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Mike Bolsinger (1-2, 4.20)

Chatwood has been outstanding on the road this season, going 4-0 with a 0.53 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and .192 opponents' batting average in five starts. The 26-year-old Californian has allowed a total of two earned runs and worked at least six innings in each outing away from home. Chatwood has posted a 3.68 ERA and thrown one complete game in eight career starts against Los Angeles but fell to 3-5 on April 23, when he yielded three runs in four frames.

Bolsinger allowed only two runs in five innings at Chicago on Wednesday but was tagged with the loss in his third start of the season. The 28-year-old Texan won his lone outing at home, topping Cincinnati on May 24 after giving up two runs and three hits in 5 2/3 frames. Bolsinger is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in four career starts against Colorado.

WALK-OFFS

1. Gonzalez has collected 16 RBIs over his last 10 games and posted eight multi-hit efforts in his past 13 contests.

Preview: Indians at Mariners

Weather information is currently unavailable. 5-Day Forecast
GAME: Cleveland Indians (31-24) at Seattle Mariners (31-25)
DATE/TIME: Monday, June 06 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Both the Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners entered last weekend with the opportunity to take the lead in their respective divisions, but while the former took advantage of its chance in dominating fashion, the latter fell back to the pack. The Indians aim for a season-best sixth straight win and look to send the Mariners to a fourth consecutive loss Monday, when they open a four-game series in Seattle.

Cleveland remained unbeaten in five outings this month with a 7-0 rout of Kansas City on Sunday, outscoring the defending world champions 25-6 - including 20-2 over the final three contests - en route to a four-game home sweep. In addition to moving 1 1/2 games ahead of the Royals in the American League Central, the Indians improved to 20-13 against opponents with a .500-or-better record. The Mariners were tied with Texas atop the AL West before the start of play on Friday but mustered only nine runs - matching their offensive output from the seventh inning of Thursday's 16-13 comeback victory over San Diego - while getting swept by the Rangers. The Mariners will turn to James Paxton for the second time in place of the injured Felix Hernandez (calf), whom the team discovered over the weekend likely will miss one more start at the very least.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland), ROOT (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Trevor Bauer (3-2, 4.27 ERA) vs. Mariners LH James Paxton (0-1, 7.36)

Bauer saw his winless streak reach four starts with his second straight no-decision Wednesday versus Texas, as he permitted three runs on four hits and three walks in seven innings. The 25-year-old UCLA alum has been somewhat of a model of consistency in his seven starts this season, yielding exactly three runs on five occasions. Bauer gave up two runs versus the Mariners over as many relief innings on April 21 and has posted a 6.45 ERA while losing each of his four career starts against them.

Paxton struck out seven in his first start of the season but was charged with eight runs (three earned) and 10 hits over 3 2/3 innings in Wednesday's 14-6 loss at San Diego. Despite the rough outing, the 27-year-old native of British Columbia owns a 12-9 record and 3.25 ERA in 31 career starts after going 3-4, 3.90 in 13 turns a year ago. Paxton yielded four runs (three earned) over 4 2/3 frames in a 5-3 home loss on May 28, 2015 in his lone start versus the Indians.

WALK-OFFS

1. Seattle took two of three in Cleveland from April 17-20, although each contest was either decided by one run or in extra innings.

2. Indians rookie CF Tyler Naquin has homered in each of his last three games after failing to do so over his first 28 career contests.

3. Mariners 3B Kyle Seager went 0-for-7 over his final two games against Texas after going 17-for-29 with two homers and 12 RBIs during a seven-game hitting streak.

PREDICTION: Mariners 6, Indians 4
