KEY STAT: QPR have the worst away defensive record in the top flight shipping 27 goals in 11 games

EXPERT VERDICT: A record of 12 straight away defeats masks the fact that QPR have at least scored in their last four and they should hit the net again at the Stadium of Light. While Sunderland may not be prolific at home – just 12 goals in 12 games – the arrival of Jermain Defoe has given them some extra punch up front.

RECOMMENDATION: Both teams to score

KEY STAT: Arsenal have lost just one home league game since the opening day of last season

EXPERT VERDICT: Arsenal need to put their north London derby defeat behind them and should have few problems against the basement boys. The Gunners have scored at least twice in ten of their last 14 league games at the Emirates and the Foxes have lost nine of their 12 league road trips this term.

RECOMMENDATION: Arsenal to win 3-0

KEY STAT: Tottenham have the fourth best away league record

EXPERT VERDICT: Given Liverpool’s dominant recent head-to-head record against Tottenham – four straight wins, the last three by an aggregate score of 12-0 – the quotes for the home side may not be surprising. However, Spurs were excellent against Arsenal and look a value bet to beat a leggy Liverpool side at Anfield.

RECOMMENDATION: Tottenham

NCAAB Monday’s Tip Sheet
By David Schwab

ESPN’s Big Monday in men’s college basketball features a pair of national powers that are trying to keep things rolling in conference play on the road after posting a dominating win this past Saturday at home. First, the Duke Blue Devils will travel to Tallahassee to tangle with Florida State in the ACC. The night cap of this double-header features a Big 12 tilt between Iowa State and Oklahoma in Norman.

No. 4 Duke Blue Devils at Florida State Seminoles (ESPN, 7:00 p.m. ET)

Duke was able to avenge a previous loss to Notre Dame in a big way its last time out by hammering the Irish 90-60 this past Saturday as a 9 ½-point home favorite. The Blue Devils have now won six of their last seven games SU while going 4-2-1 against the spread. They will head on the road with a 3-1 record ATS in their last four road games. Freshman center Jahlil Okafor posted 20 points and 10 rebounds against Notre Dame and Duke easily surpassed their season scoring average of 80.6 points per game by shooting an impressive 60.8 percent from the field. The Blue Devils are ranked sixth in the nation in shooting with a field goal percentage of 50 percent.

Florida State remains a solid bet lately with Saturday’s 73-65 victory against Virginia Tech as a one-point road favorite. The Seminoles have now covered five of its last six outings, but they are just 11-13 ATS overall with a 7-7 record ATS in 14 home games this season. The total went OVER the closing 135-point line against the Hokies after staying UNDER in four of their previous six games. Junior guard Montay Brandon had the hot hand this past Saturday with 16 points while going 6-for-9 from the field, but freshman guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes continues to lead Florida State in scoring with 13.7 PPG. He scored 12 points against the Hokies while dishing out 11 assists.

Opening Odds: Duke -11

Betting Trends

— The Blue Devils are 5-11-2 ATS in their last 18 conference games and 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 games played on Monday. The total has gone OVER in seven of their last 10 games following a SU win.

— The Seminoles are 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games, but they are just 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a win ATS. The total has gone OVER in 10 of their last 14 games played at home.

— The road team in this ACC tilt has covered ATS in four of the last five meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in 15 of the last 20 games between the two. Duke has won three of the last four meetings both SU and ATS.

No. 11 Iowa State Cyclones at No. 21 Oklahoma Sooners (ESPN, 9:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Oklahoma -6

The Cyclones bounced back from an 89-76 lopsided loss to Kansas last Monday as 7 ½-point road underdogs with Saturday’s 75-38 beatdown of Texas Tech as heavy 16 ½-point favorites at home. They are now 7-3 SU in conference play with an even 5-5 record ATS. Iowa State has failed to cover in four of its last six outings and the total has gone OVER in seven of its last eight games. The Cyclones have been one of the top scoring teams in the nation with 79.9 PPG while shooting a solid 48.9 percent from the field. Leading the way with 15.2 PPG is junior forward Georges Niang. Sophomore guard Monte Morris leads the team in assists with 5.6 and overall the Cyclones are ranked first in the nation in this category with 17.8 assists a game.

Oklahoma ran its current winning streak to four games both SU and ATS with this past Saturday’s 68-56 victory against TCU as a three-point road favorite. The Sooners are 7-4 both SU and ATS in the Big 12 and they are 16-7 SU overall with a healthy 14-9 record ATS. They have covered in seven of 11 home games this season and the total has stayed UNDER in their last five outings. Oklahoma is averaging 72.2 PPG while holding opponents to 60.7 points on defense. Junior forward Ryan Spangler scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down five rebounds in the win against the Horned Frogs, but junior guard Buddy Hield continues to lead the team in scoring this season with 17.6 PPG.

— The home team has won four of the last five meetings SU and the total has stayed UNDER in the last three matchups. The series is tied 2-2 SU in the last four meetings, but Oklahoma holds a 3-1 edge ATS.

NBA Monday’s Tip Sheet
By Kevin Rogers

Spurs at Pacers – 7:05 PM EST

San Antonio’s offense struggled down the stretch in Sunday’s 87-82 setback at Toronto to begin its annual “Rodeo” road trip. The Spurs missed 15 of their final 16 shots in the third quarter, while scoring three points in the last 8:45 of that period. Gregg Popovich’s team shot 33% from the field, as the Spurs dropped to 1-6-1 ATS in the past eight contests. Since mid-December, San Antonio have lost seven of its past 10 on the highway, while scoring 98 points or less eight times in this stretch.

The Pacers erased a 21-point deficit in last night’s 103-102 triumph at Charlotte to extend their winning streak to three, but Indiana failed to cover as two-point road favorites. Frank Vogel’s team is currently on a three-game ‘over’ run, seeking four consecutive ‘overs’ for the first time this season. After starting the season posting an 0-5 ATS record as a home underdog, the Pacers have covered two of their last three when receiving points at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, including Friday’s upset of Cleveland. The Pacers have lost nine of the past 10 meetings with the Spurs, but covered as 13-point underdogs at San Antonio in a 106-100 in late November.

Nets at Bucks – 8:05 PM EST

Two teams in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference playoff race meet in the Jason Kidd bowl. Brooklyn’s three-game winning streak came to a halt in Saturday’s 114-77 blowout loss, as the Nets were held to just 38 points in the first half. The Nets suffered their first ATS loss as an underdog in five tries, but Lionel Hollins’ team has covered eight of their last 11 in the road ‘dog role. Brooklyn looks to avenge a wild triple-overtime loss at the Barclays Center to Milwaukee in mid-November, falling 122-118 as 6 ½-point favorites.

The Bucks are trying to solidify themselves as the sixth-seed in the East, winning six of their last seven games. Milwaukee couldn’t finish off a cover in Saturday’s 96-93 home victory over Boston as 6 ½-point favorites, even though the Bucks shot 49% from the floor. The Fighting Kidds wrapped up January with five straight covers, but the Bucks are just 1-3 ATS in four February contests. Milwaukee has struggled of late cashing tickets as a home favorite, failing to cover in four straight in this role at BMO Harris Center.

Clippers at Mavericks – 8:35 PM EST

The road trip from hell wraps up tonight for Los Angeles, who is coming off consecutive four straight losses and the last three by double-digits. The Clippers were run out early by the Thunder on Sunday, 131-108 as 7 ½-point underdogs, as Blake Griffin was sidelined due to an elbow injury that will keep him out until after the All-Star break. The 131 points allowed were the most given up by Doc Rivers’ squad this season, while the Clippers are now 1-6 ATS on their Grammys road swing.

The Mavericks are getting back on track with victories in five of their last six games, coming off an overtime win over the Blazers on Saturday, 111-101. Dallas rallied from a 16-point deficit for the victory, as both teams shot just 41% from the floor. Rick Carlisle’s team will try to take advantage of this down and out Clippers’ squad as Dallas looks to avenge a 120-100 loss at Staples Center last month. Griffin shot 11-of-15 from the floor in that win, while J.J. Redick scored 16 points, as both players are out, but the Clippers have won each of the past two visits to the American Airlines Center.

Thunder at Nuggets – 9:05 PM EST

Denver has fallen on rocky times of late, dropping 12 of its past 13 games. The Nuggets are riding a five-game SU/ATS skid, while coming off a winless road trip at Philadelphia, Boston, and Detroit. The home-court advantage is gone for the Nuggets, who have lost five consecutive games at the Pepsi Center, while covering just once as 3 ½-point underdogs in an overtime setback to Washington. The Nuggets split a pair of games with the Thunder back in November, as Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant missed both those contests with injuries.

The Thunder has a quick turnaround following Sunday’s 23-point blowout of the Clippers, as OKC received plenty of help off the bench thanks to 50 points from Dion Waiters, Reggie Jackson, and Mitch McGary. Oklahoma City has had some recent issues on the road lately, losing four of its past five on the highway and eight of 13 since knocking off San Antonio on Christmas Day. From an ATS standpoint, the Thunder owns a 2-7 ATS record the past nine games, while going 3-8-1 ATS in the last 12 in the favorite role. In spite of no rest, the Thunder have played very well on the second of a back-to-back with a 7-3 SU and 6-3-1 ATS record in this situation.
