and just to add to the insanity of it all...i have never been to an mls game and probably have watched less than a full 90' combined throughout the years it's been in existence,,,when this stadium is finally built and play begins i will conservatively live less than 20 mins by auto and i will still go to more home games for City in Manchester each year than this place....
what is is exactly that you can't stand with MLS as I see it as very similar to Championship level? gets a decent crowd (#7 in world in avg attendance per match), has a lot of former EPL guys (Keane, Henry, Earnshaw, Cahill, Reo-Coker, etc) and goals per game & shots per game are almost identical. Obviously the individual talent is missing but hell i watch the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in USL Pro and enjoy it....

btw, heard that City are going to use NYCFC as a proving ground for a lot of their 2nd team and youngsters. hell of an oppy for you to see future city kids just down the road from you instead of in the carling cup :)

Truth-I'm very snobbish about 3 things in life...food/beverage....music....and football...have I given MLS a fair chance...not at all....like I said I have watched very lil of it...and what I watched was just not enjoyable to me...maybe now that I have an almost 2yo son and another on the way...that view and availability of the MLS so close to home could surely change, I readily admit that...time will tell on this issue for sure...as for now, I stick w/what I know(or maybe think)....I know this comes off as rather closed minded and I am exactly 180degrees from being closed minded...but with not that much time nowadays to kick back and catch what I want on the Telly regarding football, I have to pick and choose my spots....so it's City as much as I can and Holland on whatever feed I can find them on....going on holiday tonight so I won't even be able to attend the game on Saturday....which sucks cuz it would be nice to pick my brothers brain on the latest and greatest...apparently Pellegrini is officially out at Malaga now...not really sure what they see in him as apparently he is more ruthless than the wop...though a swift kick is exactly what this team needs.....cheers

rolltide, I read your post and came across this. Beckham really signed a good deal with the MLS to become an owner. He definitely helped grow the league, so I can't say that he doesn't deserve it.

David Beckham To Earn Huge Windfall From New York's MLS Expansion

Recently retired David Beckham is going to score big time with Manchester City and the New York Yankees bringing Major League Soccer to New York City for the 2015 season by buying an expansion team for $100 million.

As part of his deal with MLS when he played for the Los Angeles Galaxy, Beckham was given the right to buy an MLS expansion team for $25 million. The league has confirmed that Beckham has been having discussions with MLS recently about doing just that. Grabbing an MLS team for $25 million would be a huge windfall for the 38-year old Beckham.

As the table of MLS expansion fees below illustrates, that was a reasonable price six years ago. But MLS team values have increased at an 18% compound annual rate since 1995. Sure, the $100 million figure is inflated in the sense that New York is the biggest market and Manchester City owner Sheik Mansour will also be leveraging his English soccer team’s brand in the Big Apple. And the Yankees, via their ownership in stadium operator Legends Hospitality, will get additional value from being an investor in New York FC.

But even a $70 million fair market valuation for Beckham’s expansion team would be a handsome reward for all he did for MLS.

MLS Expansion Fees

First Year Team Amount of Fee

2015 New York FC $100 million
2012 Montreal Impact $40 million
2011 Portland Timber $35 million
2011 Vancouver Whitecaps $35 million
2010 Philadelphia Union $30 million
2009 Seattle Sounders $30 million
2008 San Jose Earthquakes $20 million
2007 Toronto FC $10 million
2005 Real Salt Lake $7.5 million
2005 Chivas USA $7.5 million
1998 Miami Fusion $20 million
1998 Chicago Fire $5 million
1995 Original 10 teams $5 million each

thought it was 20M but guess it is 25M. not pleased he's looking at miami but we all know that him n posh have to live in some high-profile region (milan, paris, la....) and that doesn't leave a lot in MLS. He's certainly not someone i can see being happy in the land of mickey mouse, charlotte, or st louis who all deserve a franchise far more than miami.

Is this why Magee didn't play against NYRB last Sun.? It's a good deal for Chicago, but not so sure about Los Angeles.

Magee dealt to Fire for rights to Rogers, who has signed deal with Galaxy

By IVES GALARCEP

When the word of Robbie Rogers’ desire to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy first surfaced, the initial belief was that the Chicago Fire (which hold Rogers’ MLS rights) would likely fetch something small in a trade.

The Fire aimed much, much higher than just a draft pick of allocation and landed a hometown hero in the process.

Sources have confirmed to SBI that the Fire and Galaxy have completed a trade that has sent Rogers’ rights to the Galaxy in exchange for Chicago native Mike Magee.

The Galaxy and Fire agreed to the terms of the trade earlier in the week, but Rogers did not finalize his new contract with MLS until Friday. Both teams are expected to announce the trade on Saturday.

The teams had been talking trade for several weeks, with the Fire asking for a package including Magee and other parts. The Galaxy were looking to acquire Rogers’ rights for far less, but after weeks of negotiations, LA finally relented and parted with their team’s leading scorer.

So does a Magee-for-Rodgers deal make sense?

Magee seems like a steep price to pay for the services of Rogers, but Rogers is considerably younger (he’s 25, Magee is 29) and the marketing appeal of having the first openly gay player in pro American team sports could make the deal worthwhile for the Galaxy.

From a soccer standpoint, the Galaxy would be giving up Magee’s goal-scoring ability, and penchant for playing well in big games, but they would also be welcoming in a player in Rogers who would give the team a pure wing threat who could slot in as a right winger or left winger.

The Galaxy also have a pair of the league’s most talented young attacking players in Jose Villarreal and Gyasi Zardes, two players who can help fill the kind of roles that Magee’s departure leaves with the Galaxy.

Rogers will be expected to slot in on the right wing once he is fit, and he should be able to give the team some quality service from the flank, with either Landon Donovan or Villarreal sliding into the left wing role.

The trade is a bonanza for the Fire, who acquire a proven goal scorer and a local Chicago-area product with a track record of coming up big in big games. Chicago’s struggling offense will almost certainly benefit from Magee’s finishing and soccer acumen, though the FIre are almost assuredly still searching for more help at forward.

The trade also puts a new perspective on Chicago’s trade of Dominic Oduro to the Columbus Crew for Dilly Duka and the rights to Rogers.

What do you think of the deal? Think the Galaxy are crazy? Feeling good about the Fire after their acquisitions of Magee and Bakary Soumare?

strange trade for LA giving up a guy that has played in 76 games over 2+ years and scored 22 goals and is only 28 years old. I guess they think either Villareal or Zardes will play on the left but both are big if's this young in their careers. Magee is from Chicago so it's a nice addition when they really gave up nothing for him (had rights to Rogers based on the Oduro/Duka trade).

Rogers basically hasn't played in 2 years. He started one match for Stevenage and one for Leeds...that's it...two years. He never did a whole lot in MLS anyway...a one trick player (speed) that can't finish. Good news is he's a young 26 because he hasn't played but 154 minutes since leaving the Crew in 2011.

great job by the Fire...

damn that's cool as hell. yeah captain claudio always been my fav...had to root for Rangers and Soton just because of him though he was dead to me for the the following few years :)

and i'm also one of the 6 people that read his book :) (and probably the only one that read both Reyna and Freidel's books...ha ha)

crazy but true...Sunderland have not won on a Monday night since Reyna scored a pair of goals to beat Leicester in 2002. Heard that one when they hosted Stoke a few weeks ago and, again, failed to win....18 straight Monday games without a win
