Player pay from the first negotiation runs out May 31. It's all posturing until then.
I have heard that the players union is kept in the dark about team finances. When the owners say they will take a bath on this season, the players don't believe it. Not sure why they wouldn't believe it, but there is such a mistrust between the 2 sides its unreal. Kind of like democrats and republicans.
Players dead set against salary cap, and 50/50 revenue split is a salary cap called by a different name. Under the current circumstances, not sure why players wouldn't agree to one season like this. Players believe that they are at risk. I don't see it that way, but not for me to judge others feelings and thoughts.
If in some way there is agreement and baseball happens, I wouldn't be surprised to see many players simply not play. Especially players that have large salaries. They are probably set up better financially and can afford not to play. So, even if baseball plays, I believe it will be a watered down version of MLB. NHL and NBA don't have this issue, since salary cap and revenue share are already a part of their deal.
All this said, MLB doesn't play or plays without certain stars, it will be the demise of the game.
