Tim Keck and Christopher Johnson (founders) state that 1988 was the starting point.

Was it by another name?

Was it not satire but instead you just sitting on the porch with scissors and glue pasting bitchy conservative commentary (leading up to your current incarnation). Maybe you wore an onion on your belt while you did this? (As was the style of the times....A.S.)

Please clarify...myself and the founders await.

It was called the Onion...a free, underground, university town type paper that sold funky little ads for the local head shops and food coops.

It had some basic local stories, editorials, rants and humor.

It was nothing on the scale of what was founded in 1988, but it was popular in the local Madison scene and had already been around for a while.

I find it hard to believe there isn't a connection past to the present if they have the same name.

That's all I can honestly tell you...now do you honestly have some proof I am lying? :think2: :grandmais

So The Onion, founded in 1988 and NAMED IN 1988 by Tim's uncle (after seeing Tim eat an onion sandwich) just decided to take on the name of a current paper that you were helping with 10 years earlier.

LOL...C'mon...that sounds like the Onion making fun of itself.

I don't know what the story is...I've told you the truth from my perspective.

Where is your evidence that I lied again? :think2:

What color is the sky in your world? You've been absolutely exposed in here as a total bullshit artist. You couldn't even get the year close.

I freely admitted I'd apologize with proof. You hung yourself and won't let go now.

Pretty shameful, and totally expected.

You are still sitting on a baseless accusation...calling me a liar with zero proof.

Thats the facts jack.

[edit]

Fictional history
Officially, the paper purports to be over 250 years old, having originally published in the mid 18th century. It was named the "Mercantile Onion" because those were the only two English words the paper's immigrant founder, Friedrich Siegfried Zweibel, knew at the time. ("Zwiebel" is German for onion.) The newspaper's motto was "Tu Stultus Es", or 'You are stupid' in Latin.

In 1896 Zweibel's 20-year-old grandson, T. Herman Zweibel became editor, a position he supposedly holds to this day despite being over a century old and largely senile. For much of the 20th century the paper was highly reactionary and violently opposed every social reform the century brought forward, from women's suffrage to married characters sleeping together in the same bed on television.

In recent Onion Radio News releases, beginning December 15, 2008, the concluding ad for Our Dumb World has stated: "For over 350 years The Onion has given you the day's news..."

What exactly constitutes proof in your world?

You said you wrote for The Onion 30 years ago. Multiple sources, including the founders themselves, state that The Onion first appeared in 1988, 21 years ago.

And you have the nerve to call the accusation baseless as if anyone, even the most dimwitted soul, would think for a second that you might be telling the truth.

It would have been easier to fess up to being caught in a lie rather than trying to carry it out to these ridiculous extremes.

Wow, from liar to bullshit liar to gullible bullshit liar.

------

Officially, the paper purports to be over 250 years old, having originally published in the mid 18th century. It was named “the Mercantile Onion” because those were the only two English words the paper’s immigrant founder, Herman Ulysses Zweibel, knew at the time. (Zwiebel is German for onion – note the difference in spelling.) The newspaper’s motto was Tu Stultus Es, or “You are stupid.”

In 1896 Zweibel’s 20-year-old son, T. Herman Zweibel became editor, a position he supposedly holds to this day despite being over a century old and largely senile. For much of the 20th century the paper was highly reactionary and violently opposed every social reform the century brought forward, from women’s suffrage to married characters sleeping together in the same bed on television.

LMAO...I took that clip from the same page you posted earlier...you dumb ass...it was from YOUR source.
