San Francisco 49ers +2.5 (25 Units)
Okay so here is a way to look at things. There are two Monday Night games tonight and two -2.5 point road favorites. The odds of both, who are heavily backed by the betting public, covering the spread in these games are not good. I am not touching the Pittsburgh-Washington game whatsoever but if I were to take a guess at which road favorite has the better pedigree and the better ability to win on a Monday Night of the opening weekend, it sure as heck wouldn't be the LA Rams. This is not a home opener, this is a franchise opener (of sorts). 65% of the betting public is backing the Rams who don't really have a sure shot guy at the QB position just yet. These two teams are somewhat identical in the sense that they were terrible on the offensive side of things last year, they both have very good young Running Backs but the QB position is still a question mark. All I know is that RB Carlos Hyde is back, he missed both against the Rams last year and I'm sure he's going to have a pretty big impact on this game.
The Rams, formerly known as the St. Louis Rams, played in one Monday Night Football game over the course of the last three seasons and they failed to cover the spread. The Niners on the other hand are 2-0 ATS on Monday Night Football the last three season and an impressive 30-11 ATS on Monday Night Football since the 1992 season. Wow! Checking the history books, the Niners are also 3-0 ATS in their last three home games as an underdog of 3 points or less and the Chip Kelly era is sure to not only be an interesting one but an era that comes off as pretty explosive. He's back on the West Coast where he belongs. Not sure what it is but this Rams team has been a disaster in September games the last maybe 10 seasons covering the spread in only 15 of their last 54 games played in this month. Yikes! They are 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games played in Week 1 of the season 1-5 ATS in their last six Monday Night games (although this dates back to 4-5 years ago). San Francisco on the other hand are an impressive 5-1 ATS in their last six games played in Week 1 of the season and they are a whopping 24-6 ATS in their last 30 Monday Night Football games (as mentioned earlier). This one is sure to be a good one. I cannot go against Chip Kelly, the Niners and the whole Kaepernick thing (even if he's backup). The Rams will win their first game of the LA era at home. Some other time.
Trend of the Game: San Francisco is 24-6 ATS in their last 30 Monday Night Football games.
San Francisco 27, LA Rams 16
