He very well may be a top 5 all time player, but MLB is not like NBA, where one man can make a huge difference. You could pitch around him, and the guy every at bat.
The problem is he sucks up so much payroll, to the point of not being able to make a team with what is leftover,Pujols doesn't help matters either.
LAA has a losing record,a nowhere team !
These lifetime contracts never work out, countless examples exist, it just cripples a team to take on such a huge contract, and prevents signing anybody else of note.
Baseball is a team game, no one man is worth 10-20 % of your payroll, even if he is perhaps the greatest of all time.
I like the Yankees approach of pulling hitters like Urshela, Le-may-who, Voit...etc., off of the top of my head
