When I discovered Tirico in the Chair at MNF my immediate shocked thought: WTF just happened here??!!? as I expected Al Michaels would do MNF forever. I still don't understand what happened. I guess Al Michaels was offered more money....? To leave MNF. Al Michaels is a God of Broadcasting. Tirico ain't even in the Temple.
Al Michaels' success in large part due to having a great Spotter, for 32 years now.....Malibu Kelly Hayes. Grew up in SoCal, a surfer and football player then onto Boston College where he came to work with Al Michaels, when they both were very very young....been with him ever since.

A couple of things. From all articles I have read Gruden and Tirico are good friends, hang out and socialize before and after the games. Al is 71 and apparently NBC want Al and Chris to do the five Thursday night games in addition to the Sunday Night game. His contract is for two more years. The rumor is that Al will give the Sunday night seat to Mike in two years and do the Thursday night games. Mike will not just do SNF, he will also eventually take over Bob Costas position as Olympic host. Tirico is only 49 and Al and Bob are not getting any younger. Being the Olympics hosts takes long hours and months of preparation. Would love to see Al and Chris work forever but 21 games a season is demanding and in an article I read Al's wife travels with him to each game. Tirico eventually be the lead dog at NBC and probably at a substantial increase in salary over what he makes at ESPN. He will also get to call a Super Bowl on NBC and he will never do that ESPN.
