Irvin is not the most articulate sportscaster around, but we have all heard much worse. I appreciate his (and others') perspective as an ex-player. I would rather hear a mush-mouthed opinion from a guy who has played the game than a pontification from some pin-head who never strapped on a helmet. In a perfect world, only the most articulate former-players would do all the commentating, but I guess Irvin et al bring a perspective and persona that keeps it interesting.

Michael Irvin

When he played for dallas I despised him. Have grown to like his opinions now. Find him entertaining. Still cannot stand Dione Sanders. Cannot stand Rob Dibble, glad they fired him. Wish they would get rid of Dan Patrick too; terrible radio show. Like Cowherd a lot. Bring back Tony Kornhiser too. Never liked Rome. Erik Kusilias on "The Sport Bash" is OK. Mike&Mike in the Morning blows.

You have to understand that ESPN will hire anyone. They hired Jim Valvano when he was the scum of the earth. Turned him into a hero. They still immortalize him. He must of had pictures of someone.

Just my opinions.
