Maybe Troops Would Notice if They Looted an Oil Well

RFC,
Give me a break. Liberals are tough on crime and they support the military.

As Patriot posted here, the piece from the Star turned out to be largely overblown under closer scrutiny. Contrary to what is suggested by the media piece which is linked in the above thread, this does not absolve the US military under Gen. Tommy Franks for it's gross negligence in failing to contain the brush fire of violent crime which erupted in Baghdad and Basra in the wake of the American invasion of Iraq.

Is it so simplistic and old-fashioned of me to believe that real Americans should follow-through on what they start and accept responsibility for the often unintended and sometimes disastrous consequences of their actions?

Well this is odd ... almost a year later, and Jordanian customs has seized "hundreds of Iraqi artifacts, carpets, paintings and books that have been stolen from Iraq's museums and archaeological sites," and the curator of the Iraqi National Museum says that there are still more than 15,000 pieces unaccounted for from the war (story here.)

Makes one wonder if the rebuttal story linked by Patriot (unfortunately no longer works) was just spin, or what.

Only thing that surprises me about this whole issue is that this area was even intact for the looting and desecration to occur, what with all the bomb-a-day mentality over there....

Christ, the unabomber wouldn't even feel safe over there...

The cure for cancer.
The cure for aids.
Peace in the middle east.

Bet on the first two events to MAYBE happen....the third item on that list is realistic fantasy.

They fought yesterday, they fought today, and tomorrow is another day and the fighting will continue.

Actually Marco, the "bomb a day" thing didn't start in Iraq until the U.S. took over. Not trying to be flippant, but despite all the spin on what a horrible dictator Saddam was, like any other dictatorship they had lots of nice state-funded art and monuments and museums and whatnot (hell, look at D.C. for a classic example.)

When I spoke of the bomb-a-day thing, I was referring in general to the middle east and all the fighting in Israel.....referring loosely to the crusades and since that time has there been peace in that region of the planet ever....

....the bomb-a-day thing was a bit of a stretch when considering Iraq, but it still amazes me that there are buildings over there without schrapnel embedded on the outside.....

definitely a can of worms opened up over there.
