Manny is a jerk, he only cares for himself. Manny's antics are wearing thin on Red Sox fans and I imagine, on his teammates. First of all, the man is always overweight. Honestly, is Manny ever in shape? Sometimes he simply decides not to run out infield choppers. Manny is perfectly athletically capable of being a good or even very good defensive player, but he just doesn't give a damn. There's no excuse to refuse to play unless the player is injured. Whether he hits or not, he has no right to that. Especially when all the FANS are paying for his salary.
Manny gets my vote for one of the best hitters in baseball history.

I agree that he should play in the All-Star Game and it's a low-class move to skip it...but it's not his right? Yes it is. The All-Star Game is an exhibition. If he doesn't want to play, he doesn't have to. We all wish he did, but if the man decides he wants to spend time with his family instead, that's absolutely his choice. I wish he'd be honest about it, though.
And while some of the things he does are selfish, the man truly cares about winning in the postseason. There isn't another player in MLB that works on his craft(hitting) harder than Manny. Nobody talks about the hours he spends practicing, but fact is he's a workaholic when it comes to hitting.

But as long as he goes .320-35-120 then he can be as big of a flake as he wants. Right? Is he an average fiedler and baserunner? Absolutely. Does he more than make up for it with his bat? Absolutely.
Mike Piazza is one of the worst defensive catchers in the history of baseball. Go ask the Dodgers how much he meant to that franchise. Hall of famer for sure, despite his defensive woes.
And Manny Ramirez is much, much better in the field than Piazza was.

He does not SUCK in the field and he is not a terrible baserunner.
Led outfielders in assists last year and has made few errors the past two years.............and has made some trully outstanding web gems in that time.
For his size, Manny runs pretty well on the basepaths too.
Granted, he has his 2-3 TOTAL MISHAPS in the field and on the basepaths year in and year out................but BIG DEAL.
