Good idea by WB - why not ask a casino boss to take off the 00 for a single spin (for big money), all he can do is say no. I am not sure how many games have just the single 0 in Vegas these days, but if I were going to play roulette for any amount, I would look for one, it cuts the house edge in half.

How about challanging some Vegas sportsbook to let him lay or take a single number at -110 for the whole 100k on the NBA game of the day on Sunday, maybe the Lakers at the Kings game for example. Would any Vegas book have the stones to book the bet at one number?

Yes +440
No -480

The guy should shop around. With the 00, the casino has a 52.6% chance of winning. Without the 00, the casino has a 51.4% chance of winning.

Assuming the guy bets $138,000, we're talking about an expected-value difference of about $1600.

If I was running a casino, I'd gladly sacrifice the $1600 in exchange for all the publicity!

I think he'd be way better off with a pass line bet on the craps table. At least there's no "0" or "00" to worry about. It's either pass or don't. Very small house edge too.

Some of the older Vegas hands will remember the "Wednesday Night Gambler" (I think it was Wednesday) at the Horseshoe. He would come in to the Shoe with a case full of money, some say around 250K, and let it ride on one pass line roll - win or lose. He did it several times over a span of a couple of years or so. Won a few, and lost a few. Perhaps someone will recall the details better than I have.

i was at the horseshoe last year, and a guy bought in with $750 and just over an hour later was up over 200K. later that night, gave it all back

don't know if he will play there anymore with the new owners, he would bet wildly. i imagine they would set limits now. before, he would bet anything he wanted. and he would only want to be paid in red. they would refill the tray as many times as he wanted

his name is dexter. he's about 65-70 years old, and is hammered around the clock.

True. For pure entertainment value, nothing is better (or worse) than watching that damn ball bounce from number to number on the roulette wheel.

In Europe the norm is to have one zero on the wheel and even if it comes in, your even-chance bet goes "in prison" which means it gets another life. If it hits on the next spin you get it back and if it misses (or another zero comes up) you lose it. Your expected loss goes below 1.5% in that scenario. Any major casino should easily agree to such conditions.

So if your wager hits after being in prison you will get your initial wager back plus winnings?

No, if it hits while it's in prison it just comes out of prison and you get it back without winnings. It's like losing half your bet on a zero because the fate of your money in prison is the same as the fate of half the amount as a normal bet (except in the case of another zero).

I doubt they still have it, but the Parisian in LV had the European roulette for at least a few months when they first opened.

The Strat has a single zero table. The most hilarious thing is that it is right next to a double zero table and both are always filled. Why would you play at one when the other is a short step away with half the vig?
