Bankroll: $10,000
2% Units: $220/200

500 wins = +$100,000
500 losses = -$110,000

Bye bye bankroll

That isn't 2% of your bankroll, that is 2.2% of your starting bankroll. Every bet you make SHOULD come off the top so a 10k roll betting 2%(2.2) and making 10 plays isn't supposed to be putting 2200 in action. It should be more like 1995 or so. The first bet would be 220, the last bet would be 180.

I am of the opinion that no one can win betting one way for a lifetime. Just my opinion, but I have yet to see anyone that has gotten super rich doing it.

bought kellen's(sixthsensesports) book last year and found it interesting. Went ahead and purchased his college picks this year (cheap $100) and they were 20-9 going into last week. I find him fair and he has not been "tout" pushy

I think the best way to make a living betting sports is to have a decent bankroll and then sit at the sportsbook and wait on a Saturday until you get a two point line move and then bet the opposite with some big money!

You can then do the same thing on Sunday but not with such a great line move. Play bookie not bettor, and you'll come out OK!

Goes without saying that when juice of any percentage is involved, one has to have a win record better than 50%, no? Regardless, thanks for the explanation, will keep in mind.

Unless you play a lot of dogs in MLB and NHL.

Technically you can, like Fezzik, but very few can beat the books long term in any sport, and I know of no single person who does it year round. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I think it's impossible. You really have to take good risks for sure. I don't feel so bad with my very small loses in the hundreds over these last 2.5 years reading this forum.

Josh,

It can be done. I don't do it, but I am going to use it as a source of income when I graduate. There's a tennis guy across the street who has made his followers a conservative 96 units, betting between 1-4 units per play, maybe 1 or 2 plays a day. Pick your spots, have the balls to follow a guy or 2 in certian sports (I don't cap tennis or basketball or hockey). Focus on what you know. Scalp the hell out of things, predict middles, signup for contests, basically immerse yourself in this shit man. You also gotta deal with a lot of shitty books. I think it takes time to get good. When I started 3 years ago I lost my ass. Also see is SportsInteraction still will let you bet the correct score of soccer matches that have already finished. +3100 is always nice.

You guys all focus on the wrong things. Sports can be beaten, but a profession is a lifestyle. Its not hard at all to win consistently, but will you win enough to pay the bills? Will you properly budget so you don't blow unusually big winnings and then get stuck when the inevitable losing streak comes along? Do you have the dedication to get up early every day and stay on top of the lines and the news when it seems like nothing is going on? Do you have the money to begin with and use reasonable expectations to make sure you bet enough to earn what you need and have a bankroll big enough to support those bets?

These things are far bigger predictors of success than win rates. Yes you must at the end of the day win more than you lose, but I would guess at least 5-10% of the people betting on sports can do that. Then again of those, many will do something stupid along the way or lose their touch and have it cause a downward spiral. In any event there is so much more to professional sports betting than just picking winners and maintaining a bankroll.
