I wonder if that's where they're "yanking" their data from

LOL

Nerdly enough, I actually tried ...

.. their feeds are coming from their own site .. which means they have some code grabbing the scores and such from some other site & then generating the data on their own machine (some non-web accessable server-side program that generates .dat data files
icon_mad.gif
) & reading it in through their applet ..

... no way to trace that sort of stuff. (unless you are a hacker & can get access to their server, but I haven't a clue how to do such evilness)

If they are taking copyrighted data without permission then yes ...
... however, I can not verify if they are "doing such".

There legal options would be to have Major sit in front of ESPN all data and updating the data files for the scores by hand
icon_wink.gif

or to pay for their feeds or have an agreement granting permission to take them and re-distribute them freely

With all the enemies that Russ has in this industry, I doubt that even he would be so dumb as to steal data from sites like ESPN...

Maybe someone should try the direct approach and ask them where they are getting the information from....

If they are not doing anything wrong, then I suspect they'd answer this question...

THE SHRINK

This is incredible. Are you suggesting that Keith Glanz has stolen the data that he provides for majorstats feeds?? Ken, you might want to get in touch with Stephen Nover about this, as he may be able to vouch for the integrity of his friend Keith.

Unless they're paying for the same feed (eg Reuters Service) then it seems a bit odd ... but I'm no lawyer

Read above and chill out please...

I was not suggesting that at all...

Curious minds just want to know the answer to my post above...

ESPN doesn't generate it's own stats either. There are companies out there that sell the stats. Companies like Stats Inc and Sportsticker for example. They usally sell to Newspapers, TV, etc

McFin is right, those companies are like the Rueters of stats.

For the sake of the industry I hope these feeds are legit. The watchdog community doesn't need another black eye.

Maybe instead of putting words into my mouth that I never said, Minnow can come in here and she some light on this?

All we want is the truth...

I'm quite sure this was all posted at MW when MS was announced.
The sports feed for news and scores is an info feed that we pay for from sportsticker enterprises.
Keith uses his own stats along with standard stats also provided by sportsticker ent.
Maybe Stephen can do a fact filled write-up?
icon_wink.gif

p.s. Shrink.. I had no idea you did your own capping

That's why I am down to McIrish!!!

Thanks for the answer...

As far as Nover doing a write up, if they want to pay for advertising like everyone else, we may consider it...
icon_wink.gif

Can I post it here when they do, Lander? Also, apologies to Mr. Glantz for misspelling his name in my haste to reply to this attempt to discredit.

Minnow,

That's what you get for name dropping...

Apology accepted...

And yes, being that you obviously feel we are worthy of dropping in and visiting, it would give us great pleasure to announce this on behalf of Sports Ticker...

Also, we look forward to helping out for any and all of your advertising needs...

In the future, feel free to email advertising@therx.com ...
