How about when players touch fans? Or knock their cellphones out of their hands because they're taking pictures?

Should they be fined $ 500,000 and suspended for a year?

I don't think so, I think it's bad manners, but I don't think it's life altering.

Interested to hear what people who think Stevens is the antichrist think about players behaving badly

I don't think this guy is the antichrist, and I do think a lot of the outrage is racially motivated.
Just don't think it is that big of a deal.
I disagree that Lowry mishandled it, I think he reacted properly.

I do wonder how the posting body here would be reacting if it was a white player and a black fan though. Probably be yelling for a lifetime ban. Food for thought. Can't have it both ways.

Just imagine if Drake did this to a player? Posters here would demand that Drake gets deported back to Canada!!

not overblown imo

he had no business shoving him
there's no reason to allow someone back into an nba game who is willing to get into a physical confrontation with the player. it is neither beneficial for the player or the fans. it is also a risk as physical instigation (ie. the palace) can lead to catastrophic consequences and he is a complete liability. does anyone care that he is not at the arena? exactly.

What a fucking joke, dude barely pushes Lowry meanwhile Draymond Green can repeatedly intentionally kick guys in the nuts and barely gets a slap on the wrist.

Sick. How anyone can make that about race is beyond me. I heard Kendrick Perkins yesterday compare it to a cop killing a black kid (which he says happens DAILY in America) Jason Whitlock quickly told him to cut it out and Perk got mad. In addition, Lebron James tweeted, Privelege aint welcome here...aka, white people.

Harry my friend, you created a strawman and attacked it. Race makes absolutely no difference to me, my attitudes wouldn't change one iota. I'm a guy that has argue Mike Tyson got screwed and William Kennedy Smith goy away with rape. I will acknowledge race does matter to some people, but they're some fractional minority that aren't very good people. I think using race and racism is way overblown and used much too callously

Should an NBA player that behaves badly, reacts violently or makes contact with a fan be fined $ 500,000 and suspended for a year?

Isn't that a fair question?

My response is NO, but people saying Stevens deserves it or he deserves more can't say NO

Agree to disagree.
My response is yes.
If a player went into the crowd and shoved a fan, I think that would be about right.
Player on player aggression obviously different.

I guess I'm not communicating my point well. I don't think race matters to you, nor me.
My point was that I think the media over-reaction is driven by the races of those involved.
And (most) people here think that is bullshit. I'm just posing the question, how would those same people react if it were reversed.
It was an honest moment of introspection, nothing more.

OK

and just to let you know, I was never offended by anything you said, just trying to have a respectful discussion, something that's not always easy to do on the WWW :)

Yeah I know, fair enough, not offended here either. You're one of the good guys I know that.

I will further my explanation by saying I do think fans deserve the utmost protection from any physical aggression by players whatsoever.
That is a line you just don't cross as an athlete.
It is only fair that players receive that same level of protection.

Tim my friend, I bet Toronto, and Lowry's behavior was classless too

He was hardly touched, he wanted to be offended and blow the thing way out of proportion IMHO

I hate that type of bullshit, I just do

Shut up and play hard all the time, and respect your opponent

I hate all the showmanship and trash talking and complaining about every call that's so prevalent in today's game. I kinda miss the day players policed the game :)

I can't speak to the showmanship and trash talking. Lowry wasn't doing that when he jumped into the crowd. He shouldn't have been touched at all. I couldn't care less if a player got fined $500,000. It would sure send a message to the rest of the league that you don't pull a stunt like that with a fan. Don't see why a fan should get away with it. We can agree to disagree on this one. I'm not making Lowry a villain here.
