Ortiz won the job as the fifth starter for the Astros with a 3.18 ERA in seven spring training games.<sup id="cite_ref-4" class="reference">[5]</sup> Pitching in relief on April 8th, 2009, he gave up a three run home run to Mike Fontenot on his first pitch in an official major league game in almost two years.However, after struggling in his first outing, Ortiz has started this season 2-0 and is looking to help get the Astros to the top of their division. He is now 3-3 with a 3.36 ERA
