Talking about the 60's - I see how Eek has this idea that the antiwar group was civil to people who didn't agree with them - what a lie!

Ask any soldier who was singled out by these pampered middle class morons for their abuse.

It was bad enough that LBJ and his crew screwed the world up for poor young men (you know - the people who couldn't afford to go to college and whose mommy and daddy couldn't wrangle them a draft deferment), and that military moral was low by being involved in that leftist political quagmire. Many of our own generation were treating us like crap because we chose to wear a uniform rather than skip to Canada or go to Jail (no other choice for poor people).

Unbelievable how some of these idiots revise history to suit their own beliefs!

Wilheim - I know you're on the other side of the spectrum from me on many issues; do you see that era any differently than I do????

If I was there (not that I would ever go near the cunt) or at any other concert or show and the "artist" started with this bullshit I would boo them off the stage.

I was once at a Santana concert when Carlos started preaching about Mandela and I completely drowned out his diatribe with my yelling. (Sunrise Musical threatre).

I don't recall saying that anyone was civil to anyone in the 60's.

Its the lack of public protest, in various forms, compared to the 60's, that I was referring to.

It could be a changing culture, but that Sea Island thing didn't look very 'free' as far as citizens protesting in a democracy is concerned.
It actually looks like people were afraid to turn up.

Arresting people because they have anti-bush t-shirts doesn't look too hot either.
Thats an excellent way to intimidate ordinary citizens that MIGHT have considered protesting.
(The non rent-a-mob majority)

And yet a limited release anti-bush film becomes a box office hit, indicating that there is still that underlying interest in controversial politics.

...looks like a changing culture to me.

My mistake Eek - you're right about the 60's, but I don't believe it was altruism, but rather the draft that gave most students their incentive to protest.

When the draft changed to a lottery in December of 69, off campus protests fell off dramatically, and violent protests pretty much ended after the Kent State Massacre.

Other than the minor campus marches - mostly against Nixon and Vietnam/Cambodia, there weren't a lot of protests in the 70's

Maybe so Dweeb, but do you think Squyres & Timmins should have better anticipated that reaction? Regardless though, they shouldnt have treated her this way if they knew ahead of time she would be doing that at the end of her show.

What I am hearing around town from people of all political slants is that the management of the Aladdin way-over-reacted. This dedication to Michael Moore apparently came in the encore -- after the main show was over. And she let everyone know beforehand that this dedication was an integral part of her show.

I guess I am also surprised at the reaction of the audience. Not sure what the truth is about that -- because some people are saying that everything went smooth. And some are saying that it was an ugly crowd even before the show started -- and then got more ugly when Linda started bad-mouthing everything Vegas. I have heard 13 different versions of what really happened.

But, to my way of thinking, this is the type of audience who would go to a Mike Tyson fight and then be shocked if they saw blood.

You've got to love Linda -- because she is true to her own principles. And, just for the record, I am a far right-wing conservative.

Oh, and re the way the hotel treated her:
One version even had Linda escorted from the Hotel for her safety because the mob was threatening her. This is truly a story that I can't get a handle on -- even though I am right there -- I am right here in Las Vegas.

If you go to a U-2 concert, the Clash, the Dixie Chicks, or Linda Ronstadt -- don't be surprised if they do exactly what they always do in their concerts.

If politics is a standard part of the show -- don't be offended when that's exactly what is delivered.

This whole mess kind of reminds me of the movie Casablanca. When I first came to Las Vegas in the 1970's, I wasn't shocked to find gambling going on here.

You guys are going to love this:

Quoting from the web site of 1520 AM KOMA Oklahoma City, America's Favorite Oldies Station

"I Will Be Loved
Linda Ronstadt may not be banned from the Aladdin in Las Vegas after all. The casino, which she reportedly was ejected from Saturday after praising Fahrenheit 9/11 director Michael Moore, may be under new management come September. Potential new owner Robert Earl has invited Ronstadt back and wants Moore to appear with her onstage. Moore has already accepted the invitation. Billboard.com"

http://www.komaradio.com/

go to this web site, and look to the left for "Oldies News"

Thank You
