VMW up 2% so far today. I don't think it's a good stock for the short term. I'm still thinking about long term in real life investing though.

The nice thing about VMW is that it's backed by EMC which has been around for years. Cisco also bought up a percentage of this stock. If they are investing in it then it must be good for the long run.

I've decided I was too hasty in selling VMW. I'm now reading that there is a virtualization trade show this week and the price could go up. Actually, it is up 2% already today. So I went to the web site where are contest is located and I am unable to buy VMW. It says that the stock price is $0.00 so maybe it's offline now. I'll try later this morning to buy those shares back.

Thanks PT. Some of this increase is due to analysts giving a high trade forecast for the stock so I feel lucky they came out and spoke highly of it. The other part of this increase is due to researching the stock and staying with it when the volatility originally scared me away.

This stock is still rather volatile but I think I'll hold on to it and watch it closely.

Many analysts are putting the value of this stock near the $90 mark. I think I'll wait until it gets near there before considering to sell.

More luck coming my way as analysts upgrade VMware's parent company EMC and also analysts initiate favorable stock ratings on VMW.

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- EMC Corp. and recent spin-off VMware Inc. led modest gains across the overall tech sector Monday morning as Wall Street analysts focused their attention on the two firms.

Both Bear Stearns and Citigroup upgraded the maker of data storage technology to the equivalent of buy ratings, thanks mostly to the positive outlook for VMware, a maker of "virtualization" software that was spun off from EMC in an IPO last month.

"While not a call on the current quarter, which we view as seasonal at best, the long-term benefits to the industry and, more directly, EMC associated with virtualization are compelling," Paul Mansky at Citigroup said in a report.
VMware picked up more than 5% in gains after brokers who underwrote the IPO started coverage of the firm.
J.P. Morgan, Citigroup and UBS initiated the stock with the equivalent of buy ratings while Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, Banc of America Securities and Wachovia tagged the stock with neutral ratings.
