Missed Sherwood taking the Wild to win it all
Like them as well
Wish I had it at more than 12-1. Saw 14-1 when they were squared up at 2-2
Which poster has a Calgary future at 500-1 or something crazy like that?

That's Vic, and while he's probably hedged a little by now, he can afford to at 500-1 haha. I'm cheering for them (and him!).

I did hedge a hundred on Vancouver in round one, (I got $12 to win $6000 on the Flames), so I’ve invested $112. I did the math with the possible scenarios all the way to the final. I never imagined Calgary being such a huge dog. Hedging becomes more difficult when their opponent is a -200 favorite or higher which is likely all the way to the final. This forces me to do a little bit of gambling. I’ll sit on the first game or two in Anaheim, hope Calgary wins one of them, then take the adjusted series price at a more manageable size.

If I didn’t already have my Flames ticket I’d be taking them in a heart beat at the ridiculous price of +210 currently at 5dimes. I know the advanced stats say Calgary shouldn’t even be here but but one thing those numbers don’t account for is heart. Flames got plenty of that.

I have to agree with this opinion:

"We, like so many others, were very high on the Rangers after the regular season but after their first round struggles against the Penguins we’re taking a step back on them. The Rangers disposed of the Penguins in five games and while they dominated for stretches, the final result of that series was much better on paper than it was on the ice. Every game was decided by one goal. Two of the five games went into OT. The Rangers actually could have been eliminated by Pittsburgh had the Pens had some better “puck luck”. We’re not going to take anything away from the Rangers because Marc Andre Fleury was outstanding in that series but outside of the first game in New York, the shots, shots attempts and scoring chances were pretty even. That was against a Pittsburgh team that was depleted on defense and that had produced very little offense in the second half of the season

Fleury is simply a ordinary goalie and if he wasn’t playing for Pittsburgh wouldn’t even be a .500 career goaltender. Everyone talks about his post season failures, .905 save #, 2.68 GAA in 93 playoff games but these numbers mirror his career regular season stats, .911, 2.59.

Advanced stats or not no one can deny the eye test between these two teams supports this inflated series price. One team looks lost, the other with momentum and focus.

I still stand by what I wrote in 2015.

Fleury is having a stellar career year at age 36 and I have nothing but applause for him today, (mostly because I’m a Knights fan). There can be no debate that he has gotten better with age since coming to Vegas. His community work here and character has made him the fan’s favorite and in the locker room. No doubt he’ll be a first ballot HOFer.

On the other hand there can be no arguing that he has benefited greatly from playing on perennial Stanley Cup contenders throughout his career explaining his .634 career win percentage. Career save# of .912 and GAA of 2.58 is ordinary. His playoff numbers are much worse which was my primary motivation in responding to Feddz’s original post. If he was such stud prior to 2015 why did he not win a Vezina or even remotely come close in voting for the for the Pittsburgh Penguins?

The year after I wrote this he posted a .302 GAA in 36 starts and Pittsburgh left him unprotected in the expansion draft.

Most telling, before this season started VGK were trying to deal him for a second round pick to free up cap space, (Lehner was their number 1), and no one bit on the 35 year old.

He proved us all wrong, clearly plays his best when he has a chip on his shoulder, and standing O for him for what he has accomplished this year. I hope the best is yet to come.

By the way the decision in this thread makes me remember why I liked the Rx back in the day. It’s a shame it’s regressed to what it is now.
