There was nothing about what Thiem did last night that even resembled chocking .
He was amazing .

It was just 2 guys that refused to lose .

If you don’t have a new level of respect for both players after that match you doing it wrong

Lol. Love you American guys and your goddamn fucking "participation trophies". The Falcons and Patriots both played... just two great teams playing hard.. and nobody choked. Fuckign joke.

Set 1: Thiem wins 6-0
Set 2: Thiem serving to stay in the set at 5-4*.... chokes and Nadal wins it 6-4
Set 3: Theim serving to win the set at *5-4 ........ chokes. 5-5 now. Nadal holds for 6-5* lead. Then Thiem chokes to lose set 7-5
Set 4: Thiem up a break in Set 4 (3 OF 4 SETS NOW UP A BREAK) ..... and chokes. Has to win the TB to continue

Set 5: On match point Thiem finishes off the choking exhibition. He was up a break in 3 of 4 sets. He misses a smash... the purest form of choking known to tenniskind ... to lose the match. It was the perfect way to end a choking match.

Yes, both players played great. Great effort, talent, etc. But at the end of the day.... it is always choking as Nadal wills his way to victory.

Just like Khachinov up a set and serving for a 2-0 set lead.... and chokes.

Time and time again.

I could go through flashscore.com and provide twenty Grand Slam matches of players choking away matches against Nadal.

It is simply a story that repeats itself time and time again. Like the "Fed Fear Factor" angle.... where Fed will choke away a match in fear of a future opponent. In the recesses of his mind he didn't want to get blasted 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 to Djokovic.... and so he choked when serving for Set 2 to go for a 2-0 sets lead. Then he did back-to-back double faults in the 4th set TB.

None bigger than Fed converting ONLY 1 out of 17 break points in the French final, or 1 out of 13 break points in the Wimbledon final! (Although he was battling mononucleosis during the 08 season) Nadal IS one of the most mentally tough athletes ever!! He plays every point as it's his last and rarely chokes on the big points!

Rafa is the ultimate fighter. It boggles my mind that other athletes don't fight like he does. So much quitting going in all pro sports right now that it's a goddamn joke.

In my mind the logic would be: You are a pro athlete, this is you job. You commit and fight like Rafa.... irrespective of talent level.

But, lol, that shit aint happening. Especially in tennis. It's gotten so bad in tennis that quitting culture is looked upon as something glorious; ie, Kyrgios. And this new wave of Australian players around Kyrgios and younger.... it is astonishing. You would never have thought that possible. Especially with Hewitt who was a warrior and icon for Australia. (Hats off to Millman yesterday, though.)

agree with both of you

playing an individual sport is the ultimate test. No place to hide, no one to bail you out

imo, two elite sportsmen stand out in terms of mental toughness. Clear as day. Not only are they super skilled, but their psychology is tremendous; Tiger Woods and Rafael Nadal

if federer had Nadal's mental fortitude? cmon, he'd have 25+ GS titles
