Clippers being a trainwreck?

Yeah I mean it's going on ever since they've entered the league

Just a joke of a franchise.

Lakers get the criticism, but at least they're the best franchise in league history. And they hoisted a trophy just over 2 years ago.
Them being one of the faves to win it all each year and do nothing

This year is a whole new level though.

Clippers to win the West? Just a complete joke

Kind of hoping they can get hot and win a bunch of regular season games. Nice fade in the playoffs, plus decent shot they could lose to a 7 or 8 seed in the first round

Wouldn't pick them over Warriors, Grizz, Mavs, Suns, Nugs

Celtics had a very dominant run with fewer teams in the league, Lakers have been more dominant in the modern portion of league history though

In the last 35 years:

Lakers 8
Celtics 1
You said best team in league history, not "more dominant in the modern portion."

I'm saying that is up for dispute, since the Celtics have the same amount of championships.

Not interested in going back and forth on this, you can have the last word.

It's not crazy to think it's close or make a rational argument for Celtics

But I think evidence favors Lakers

It's not just recency of titles, but also fact that they've been able to be successful in more eras. The Celtics were pretty garbage from when Larry's last title to when the KG and Allen joined Pierce. That's a long ass time. Lakers have been pretty consistently relevant throughout NBA history.

On top of it, higher winning % in playoffs and regular season, plus a better "all-time" roster by a considerable margin IMO

Ok. I know I said I was done... but I have a couple more points to make.

1. In comparing the Celtics vs. Lakers as to which is the better team in history, you said one needs to discount the Celtics championships that
happened when the league had a lesser number of teams. One might be able to make a case there, IF the Celtics didn't most of the time
meet the Lakers in the finals. Shit, they beat the Lakers in the 1969 finals when the Vegas oddsmakers had set the Lakers as 11-5 favorites (let that sink in).

  • 1959: Celtics defeat Minneapolis Lakers, 4-2
  • 1962: Celtics defeat Los Angeles Lakers, 4-3
  • 1963: Celtics defeat Los Angeles Lakers, 4-2
  • 1965: Celtics defeat Los Angeles Lakers, 4-1
  • 1966: Celtics defeat Los Angeles Lakers, 4-3
  • 1968: Celtics defeat Los Angeles Lakers, 4-2
  • 1969: Celtics defeat Los Angeles Lakers, 4-3
2. Many people would argue that the Mickey Mouse ring the Lakers got in the Disney bubble should have an asterisk next to it.

3. I personally would argue the 2002 Lakers championship was completely fraudulent due to the reffing scandal against the Kings. I'm a basketball ref, and there is no way in my mind that game 6 wasn't blatantly fixed by the refs. No fucking way. It was so obvious that consumer advocate Ralph Nader wrote a public letter to David Stern (which he completely ignored).

:35 mark. Kobe cocks his arm and drills his elbow into Mike Bibby's face, right in front of the ref. We're talking about the NBA playoffs with the supposedly best refs in the game. There is absolutely no way this gets called a foul on Bibby unless the game is rigged. Refs at this level spend multiple thousands of hours training to be in the right position to make the right calls in these situations.

1. I didn’t say you need to discount the championships from earlier. I just think the Lakers have been greater during the last 30 years plus have been relevant in essentially all eras, which the Celtics have not

2. That’s a dubious argument that you have already been called out on. The bubble was a disadvantage to the Lakers if anything, given the Lakers lost the home court they had earned from being the best regular season team .

3. You can prove a call or two swings the outcome of a whole series. That’s such a reach, and the refs made ball calls both ways in that series in earlier games. You can’t pick and choose when it matters most

You can't prove* as for point 3

Though I will see the head to head edge for Celtics a decent counter-argument
