Weather.com posted an article showing each state's highest recorded temperature and noting a few recent records. HOT!!!
They had this link to the data they used. https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/monitoring/scec/records/all/tmin

So if you actually look at the records you see since year 2000, only 3 states have new records and three tied old records. In all there are 31 states with records prior to 1940 still standing. Another 6 states have records between 1940 to 1979. Four records were set from 1980-1999.

If you change your query to lowest recorded temps you find from 1980 10 states had record lows and 4 tied record lows. And there were two states with 1979 record lows. Three record lows set since year 2000.

Makes me laugh, they throw HOT in your face in the middle of July yet looking at the data shows no trend of increasing records and just the opposite, more states with record lows since 1980.
