fish, most cabbies are FVCKING CROOKS!! if you are a tourist, they will take the longest route to your hotel, to juice the meter. which is total bullshit.

most do this, i have expeienced it. i cant wait for the monorail. at least they cant jip you.

example. one night at the LVH, i was at the bar playing pickem, met a few guys there. we decided to take a cab to club paradise, about 2 miles down the road to the LEFT of the LVH.

he pulls out and proceeds to turn right?!?!? i was like WTF?? so i told him what i though, he did not talk to us the whole way there. he knew we were pissed.
quote:
Originally posted by FISHHEAD:

David I have a tip for you. Stay away from Stanford Wong seminars. I think his superbowl one I seen you at he and his sidekick hit around 20%. He also doesn't seem to be a people person.

This boondoggle project is a flop just waiting to happen. Fortunately the thieves that put this thing together stole from private investors that they were able to snooker on this piece of shit project. There is also a large insurance bond that will cover the losses so the taxpayers don't take it in the ass like they usually do with the typical floperoo projects here in Las Vegas.

This project has had absolutely no shot ever since it was first announced. There have been numerous construction delays and even after the ugly pillars and the track were done, then the monorail itself kept breaking down during testing.

The system is counting on at least 40,000 riders a day. No shot. None. The rides are a bit overpriced but the main problem is the monorail route is located too far east of the Strip and some of the stops make it so you have to walk forever through the casinos to get to them. The stop at Bally's is so far away you'll need oxygen after you finally get to the stop. The operating hours aren't long enough and the jagoffs running this thing have no clue about what they're doing. The monorail will have zero effect on the limo drivers and robber barron cabbies.

Yes it will!

Families will take the monorail over a scumbag cabbie. Hell I would walk the few extra steps rather then take a cab. Who gives a shit if you have to walk through the casino? You make it like we arent there to gamble or something.

As much as I hate to sound negative on it, I feel SB is right. The numbers make no sense at all. They must be kidding, even if everyone takes a round-trip that is 20,000 riders a day. The Las Vegas Strip has about 50,000 rooms so maybe 100,000 people are staying in the hotels. That means 20% of them have to take a round trip every day to make the numbers work. I just see no chance of that happening. Without a doubt though biggest mistake was not getting the airport part done first. Cabbies fought that one off for now, but that was really the only way they could assure they could get the numbers they need for it.

And I totally agree on the cabbies, more than half of them don't have a clue. They know where they will get a kickback so they can find those places alright. My first move when I get in the cab is to say something that makes it clear I live in Vegas. For that reason they never try that crap on me. And don't expect them to know how to get anywhere that is the least bit off the tourist trail. One time I had to practically give complete directions on how to get to the airport from my house turn-by-turn, miracle the guy found me in the first place. Vegas cabbies are a joke, but then again look where they have to recruit to get them.

Soccerbob, is dead on. Everyone I know associated with this project, from the people who built it to the people in the city offices KNOWS it is going to fail but are putting on their best face right now.
Sometimes the truth hurts and Bob hit the nail on the head. Read it again and listen to it.
