Was at the Celts game last night - the Blazers aren't in the same conversation as the Lakers, Celtics & Cavs.... The difference between those three and the rest are that they can play poorly for a half, and still win games consistantly. I can't remember how many times the Celts have had halves where they're shooting < 40% & are getting outrebounded, and in the end it just doesn't matter. I feel like the Lakers (and Cavs, to a lesser extent) are the same way.

Should be a good finals.

hey celticgreen,

Did you see the whole deal where Glen Baby Davis pouted on the bench
after Garnett yelled at him? He sat there with a towel over his head.

ESPN guys were making a big deal out of it...

Didn't notice it happening live - probably 'cause I was livid at the second string starting to screw up a 20+ point lead. Honestly, if KG had put every one of those guys over his knee and spanked them I'd have understood 'cause they looked horrible at both ends during the first 7 minutes or so of the fourth. But when I got home I saw it on espn - I can't believe he cried.

I can't see it being a big deal though, in the end. I think Davis understands that he should have been paying attention to the huddle and what KG had to say. I'm also sure Davis is aware that his role on the team isn't to hold the ball for 10+ seconds on every offensive possession, which I think was part of the problem.

Hawks were closer then anyone to beating the celtics

Explain to me how the Hawks came closer to beating Boston, I'm very interested in hearing this. Both teams took Boston to 7 games, one got spanked every single time they went to Boston and one played in the best game of the playoffs vs Boston and had a legit chance in the 4th Q to beat out the eventual NBA Champs. Cleveland took them to the wire on the road in game 7. Atlanta never had a chance because they never kept them close on the road. When you don't have home court advantage you tend to have to win a road game. Losing by 20+ in all four road games doesn't exactly make that easy.

Cleveland OUTSCORED Boston in the series. ATL either barely won or got dominated. Did you even watch the playoffs last year?

Hmm. Do you still think Portland after Boston absolutely
crushed them last night?

"They're the world champions," said Oden, who had just five points and six rebounds in 18 minutes before fouling out with 3:46 left. "We came in here wanting to see where we're at, and we're not there yet."

Big win for a young team on the road against Toronto after loss at Boston. Team is growing up fast and will be alot better team when playoffs start then they are now

From a Toronto fan that thinks this team has TONS of talent and that they should be contending for at least home court in the first round, this team is just in a terrible place right now and a win vs them isn't a big win. Yes road games are always hard and it was great how they pulled it out, but Toronto is just ugly to watch right now. That was the worst last second play call after a TO i've ever seen. Why did they try to make Chris Bosh a PG? Yes give him the ball, but let Calderon make a play to get him an open shot.

Jay Triano got the job because he is Canadian, and he is not qualified at all. This team will continue to lose games with him calling the shots. They need to pretty much just let Bosh coach this team until they can find a real coach.

As for Portland, they'll be title contenders for sure...but not this year. Too young, they aren't there yet.

We have quite some time before playoffs start. Obviously things have to fall into play. Injuries might come into play, LA & Boston are alot older teams and you just never know. But for alot of young talented teams, they would just have mailed it in after a loss like that at Boston. The fact that they played hard again and moved past that game showed alot.

Little off topic here but where is this TON of talent? Bosh and Calderon are the only good players on the team. Nobody else could be traded for a 2nd round draft pick.

And yeah I agree Portland could be a sleeper but winning it all isn't on the radar. Still wouldn't stop (and didn't) from taking some 20-1 for them to win the Western Conference. Should be able to work with that later on.

Best bet on the board right now for futures has to be Cleveland. They have plenty of good shooters now surrounding Lebron and they are really manning up on D. Why Boston is +150ish to win the conference while Cleveland is still +425ish is puzzling. Plus with Detroit declining there are really no other legitimate contenders for the East. Really put down a nice position on Cleveland.

I'm watching Portland play Utah, and they look terrible. Oden can't make
a basket, and seems like he doesn't know his place out there. I can't
believe he was the #1 draft pick, Durant at this point is a much better
player.

I would bet that Portland has no chance of going all the way this year.

Like I said in earlier post, season is young, Portland has a chance to improve quite a bit before playoffs begin. Finals aren't until June, last time i checked it was mid Dec. Oden should be alot better by end of season. Wouldn't trade Oden for Durrant if I had a chance. Team has played a ton of road games and are worn out from it.

The Celtics own a 63-39 halftime lead vs Wizards. Now 21-2 on season.

After The Lakers (18-3), Cavs (19-2) and Celtics (21-2) the NBA takes a pretty good sized drop. I know Boston has not made their grueling west coast 4 games in 5 night West Coast trip or their three game all Texas trip yet. Maybe they will collaspe when those road trips come around or injuries will decimate the team - only time will tell for all three teams.
Orlando, New Orleans, Denver and Houston form an impressive 2nd tier.

Boston recap from tonight's game in Washington.

Wahington - When you play for a franchise that has won an NBA-best 17 titles and boasts Hall of Famers Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, and Larry Bird among many others, it's hard to do something that hasn't been done in franchise history. Well, today's Celtics accomplished that rare feat last night.

The Celtics pushed to a franchise-best 21-2 start by hammering the Washington Wizards, 122-88, at the <ORG idsrc="NYSE" value="VZ">Verizon</ORG> Center. With their 13th straight win, the Celtics also tied the sixth-best winning streak in franchise history. With two more wins (home games vs New Orleans and Utah), the defending champs will match the best 25-game start in league history.

"It's always good to make history, especially when you're playing for such a storied franchise," forward Paul Pierce said. "There are not a lot of record-breaking moments with the Celtics because you know they've done so much with the history . . . Whenever we can make history, it's great."
Said forward Kevin Garnett, "Any time you can make history, you always have to give it up to the people that have come before you. I'm a big fan of history. But to establish ourselves in history that is so enriched with culture, prestige, and tradition is a great thing."

The Celtics also had a season-high margin of victory, bettering a 24-point blowout of Philadelphia Nov. 28. Pierce and Ray Allen scored 22 points. All the starters scored in double figures, highlighted by Garnett's line: 11 points, 11 rebounds, and a season-high 7 assists. The Wizards shot 43.1 percent from the field, missed 14 of 18 3-pointers, and allowed 32 points off 22 turnovers.

Garnett wore a white wrap around his right knee instead of his usual black one, prompting concern he might have a knee injury. He didn't seem to move as smoothly as normal, but said, "I'm out there. I'm doing what I do. I don't think anyone in the league is 100 percent. I am energetic in setting guys up, making plays, and getting guys easy baskets."

The Wizards (4-16) won the series against Boston, 3-1, last season despite missing star guard Gilbert Arenas, who was injured for two of the wins. But Arenas and center Brendan Haywood have been out all of this season, and without them around, the Celtics opened a 36-21 lead in the first quarter.

"We came here with a little something on our shoulder, to be honest," Garnett said. "Washington has played us the best out of any of the teams in the league and they have a little swag with them. Tonight, there really wasn't much to be said."

Allen nailed four 3-pointers and had 13 points and Pierce added 10 points in the Celtics' highest-scoring first quarter of the season. Boston scored 35 points against Golden State Nov. 26.

The Celtics shot 50 percent (12 of 24) on field goal attempts in the first and scored 10 points in the paint.

The Celtics owned a 63-39 halftime lead, holding Washington to 37.1 percent shooting. Boston made 21 field goals in the first half, including four 3-pointers.

"I thought the first half was some of our best basketball," coach Doc Rivers said. "We played great on offense and defense in the first half."
Washington trimmed its deficit to 84-74 on a 19-foot jumper by Caron Butler (19 points) with 1:06 left in the third quarter. But two Leon Powe free throws and Eddie House's 3-pointer with 3.6 seconds left gave Boston an 89-74 lead. The Wizards outscored the Celtics, 35-26, in the quarter.
"We knew we weren't going to get back into the game quickly," said Wizards forward Antawn Jamison, who scored 17 points. "We just had to fight and claw our way back."

But the way things ended, the Wizards looked like they were clawed.
House (14 points, 4 of 5 on 3-pointers) nailed two straight threes to put Boston up, 101-77, with 8:35 remaining in the fourth quarter. After the Wizards followed by calling a timeout, House told the crowd to go home. Many of the 20,173 seemed to follow his order. House hit another 3-pointer about a minute later for good measure.

"We have to give the [starters] some rest," House said. "We have the game [tonight]. We tried to put that [stuff] away early so they can rest their legs for [New Orleans]."

I would have to agree that I would not trade Oden away for Durant. Oden in time will be the better player and is someone who can help bring a championship to Portland along with Roy.

No doubt his scoring average over his career will be higher then Odens, Oden will definately have bigger impact in the league. Who else is going to take the shots on the horrific team ?
