It will be interesting to see the rankings tonight. I think Ohio State will be #6 -- between Oregon and Texas. It wouldn't shock me if they are #7 or #5 either. To me they finish behind Oregon and Texas if those teams take care of business this weekend.

It's probably all moot in the sense that I don't think Ohio State will get into the playoff anyway -- I think Texas will seal their fate by beating Oklahoma State on Saturday.

But if Washington loses, Ohio State will finish ahead of them in the final rankings IMO

Florida State in 2014 was the defending champ and undefeated 13-0, but slipped in rankings because they weren't dominant and committee put them as the 3 seed because of that

Dominating bad to decent teams matters to some level

Washington jumped Florida state because they won on the road at Oregon state. A solid feather is the hat/resume. The same reason why Georgia jumped Ohio state even though osu hasn’t lost

again pointless to debate a subject that is very unlikely to even take place. Very much splitting hairs. Committee could have a very difficult wekeend infront of them if chaos happens or things could become way less muddy depending on who wins

I don’t think osu deserves to be ranked ahead of Texas or Alabama. However Texas seems like a shoe in to merit being ranked above Ohio state. Alabama is debatable

Hi guys! I just spent almost an hour reading through this thread. Thank you for the interesting insight. I have a "feeling" about Wash, that's all. I don't have a conclusion but I do have some interesting odds. I can take Wash at +283 over Oregon. My book also offers Wash at +185 to make the playoffs. And +1185 to win it all.

What would YOU do?

I guess deserving is a matter of opinion

I think Ohio State will be ranked above Texas and Alabama personally, though I don’t think it matters much. Texas can jump them if they win

You mean 6. Which isn’t a shocker. FSU 4. Really no surprises. Both Texas and Alabama have a way to play their way in. Ohio State still needs chaos

No, I said with their resume they should be. And they should, however ranking today make little difference. 4 teams in the top 4 win, they are in. If not, Alabama Texas and Oregon have a chance to play their way in. Ohio state needs chaos

I see it like playing out like this. I don't have a futures bet on a team, so I don't have an agenda and am not trying to sell a scenario on how an improbable team is going to make the CFP.

Georgia beats Bama. Michigan beats Iowa. Oregon beats Washington. Texas beats OSU. If FSU wins, they're in and Texas is left out. However, they could lose to Louisville. If they lose, they're obviously out. Ohio State being idle is really hurting them. They only have a 9% chance of making it. Not going to happen for the Buckeyes.

Georgia
Michigan
Oregon
FSU or Texas

Also why should Texas be above Ohio State right now?

I understand them leapfrogging if they win, but why now?

Yes

If FSU and Texas both lose though, then Ohio State is in

I think I said earlier the committee would keep them 6 but I felt like they should be 7. But good catch.

simple: Texas has played more ranked teams, has a better win, and their loss was a last second loss to a top 12 team.

but again none of this matters. The fact that fsu is 4 means they win and they are in. The fact that osu is 6, means they aren’t going to get in without chaos. Texas is 7 means they are next up in fsu were to falter, bama is 8 is a sign that Texas would still have tbe tie breaker over bama at this point.

it’ll all play out Saturday. Winning and how you win will definitely matter. But I think everything stays the course personally. Uga wins, Michigan wins, Oregon win. FSU wins. And the debate will be Texas and fsu.

You also need Alabama to lose. The sec isn’t being left out for 2 big 10 teams
Yes in his scenario he said Georgia wins, so I was already assuming that

Georgia wins, Michigan wins, Oregon wins, Oklahoma State wins, Louisville wins

If that plays out, then you likely have

1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. Oregon
4. Ohio State

To me that's the best possible playoff from a competitive standpoint

I also wouldn't mind Texas as the 4, as I think they match up well with Georgia

I don’t see fsu losing. I don’t see Texas losing.

The biggest wrench that can be thrown into the system is Alabama winning because I do not see the sec getting left out. If Alabama wins, they’ll jump into the top 4 and the committee will justify it somehow.
