Sure everyone has bad games but Kobe has always been inconsistent on defense effort, saves most of his energy for when he has the ball in his hands. He has always had great footwork and has been a better help defender or playing the passing lanes vs 1 on 1 defense. Team defense is the best 'team' thing he does

This thread starts off as a childish joke. Kobe IS NOT the greatest Laker of all time.

Also, to get something else straight, Labron's 61 the other night was just a game in the history of great efforts in the NBA. Nothing special (all time). Not even near the top of the list.

What kobe has always had to guard the best player on the other team people must have memory loss kobe is a 12 time first team all defensive player ... I could care less about that its how can you say he lacks effort on defense you must not watch the game at all

I mean maybe your real young i dunno? Or your remember kobe at age 35 .... Either way kobe is one of the best defensive players the game has seen for someone to say its a toss up om d between him and magic is just plain stupidity

guys like Bruce Bowen, Ruben Patterson, Doug Christie, Ron Artest, Scottie Pippen would guard pg-pf. I am not saying Kobe is a bad defender but he hardly shuts people down and to be one of the all time greats?? I cant agree with that.... Off the top of my head I know guys like Steve Francis, Marbury and Jamison have career highs in scoring vs the Lakers. Yea 2 PGs and a PF but if your an all time great you dont let PGs get career highs in scoring against you. TO ME good defense means your player is not scoring the ball. You can have steals but if you have someone putting up career numbers in points in a game you are not playing good enough defense

Kobe is older now but we rarely see him match up with KD, Lebron, Melo or even Wade 1 on 1. We mostly see him on the off man coming with "help" defense

another moment that comes to mind was the finals vs the Sixers... Iverson was averaging 35+ points a game. Kobe couldnt even slow him down

Kobe all defense 12times in the nba.... Its quite simple that reason i stated this was someone sad magic vs kobe defense is a toss up? Not even close.....

All time greats as in all time great players he is up there on defense too.. Your talking about guys that aas their only job to guard people and then you stated lack of effort you gotta be kiddin me on that kobe playing with no effort that just doesnt make sense i never seen a player that worked harder on and off the court than kobe

My stance on this is since Magic (who is arguably the best Laker of all time) says that Kobe is the best laker of all time then I tend to agree with him. His opinion is much more valuable than any of ours.
