Mariano was a great athlete and in great shape with great health until he blew out his achilles while shagging flies at age 42 in KC. As always health is key.

Sure
And we have no real way of projecting CKs health going forward .
But it would be a huge upset if he does not pass Lee Smith at this point .
Hes only a little over 100 saves away from that

I guess just not sold on CK not as lights out as he use to be IMO, we shall see let's see who remembers to bump this thread in the future. Oh and he has to have a good team he can close for too.

The team a player plays for is a little overrated for this stat .
Lee Smith and Hoffman got a ton of saves on bad teams .

With that being said Kimbrel is almost assured of being on a competitive team.
A rebuilding team won’t have much interest in paying his asking price

He'll have to dial down the asking price....Cubs save $15m if they buy him out this fall

And the days of eight digit AAV for true RP are likely behind us

Braves gave W Smith 4/52 with 3/40 guaranteed....may be the last time in a while

Many teams - notably the Rays - are learning that with a properly resourced MiL there is little need to pay the rate asked for by dudes in their 7th year and beyond

Stock your staff with men in their first five years, add three or four in early 30s who will be legit while working for like the $2-4m pay and you are good to go

MLBPA carved out a rosy financial picture for almost 25 years of ML ballplayers aged 29-35 but those days are regressing back to a more sensible medium. And that sensible medium precludes paying any guy $200k per inning pitched
