As for "what's the solution" to politicians lying, you might as well ask "what's the solution to the human condition?" for all the good it will do you. There is no "solution", there is only the hope that people will see the benefit of honesty and ethical behavior and act accordingly.

Some of the Arab world hated us and will always hate us no matter what, but the great uniter Bush (I'm being facetious, guys) managed to bring pretty much all of them together (and then some) in celebration of their visceral (sp?) hate.

And the question of 'why do they hate us' is a fair question to ask and should be asked. Does it necessarily provide a solution? No. Does it mean we should do whatever they want? No. But it's just stupid not to try to understand your "enemy". You always have to try to step into the enemy's shoes.

I would say that all politicans economise with the truth.
All politicians manipulate the truth.
Also, no politician can be relied upon to tell the whole truth.
And no politician can be relied upon to act upon the truth if it clashes with his self-serving agenda.

So 'liar' is too narrow a description. All politicians are dodgy bastards.

i would never have thought of being so clinical about it but i have probably believed that all politicians would lie to get into office since i was 18 years old.
