You lost, be gone!
If you’re keeping score,
this week’s ruling by Judge Peter Thompson was about the eleventy-second time the courts have declared Democrat Katie Hobbs the Governor of Arizona. In the six months since the Nov. 2022 election, loser Kari Lake has filed a mountain of appeals and bullshit lawsuits, claiming that the 2022 election was rigged and she is the true governor.
Lake left no electoral stone unturned: she alleged the County’s voting machines were crooked, she said the mail-in ballot signature verification system was botched, she claimed 85,000 ballots for Biden mysteriously appeared from nowhere, and she said drop boxes were not secure, allowing Dems to pack them with Biden ballots. The only thing she hasn’t blamed is herself—the candidate who cozied up to white nationalists and
told McCain Republicans to “get the hell out!” Good move.
Lake’s first lawsuit was filed even before the 2022 election, when she and Secretary of State candidate Mark Finchem, another loser, argued that the state’s voting machines were vulnerable to hackers and therefore should not be used. Judge John Tuchi dismissed that case and
sanctioned the pair’s lawyers for wasting the court’s time.
In a blistering 30-page opinion, a federal judge ordered sanctions against the attorneys of Kari Lake and Mark Finchem in their lawsuit against voting machines, hoping to deter "similarly baseless suits in the future."
Judge Tuchi can be forgiven for hoping sanctions would deter more “baseless suits,” since he never dealt with Kari Lake before. After making a lot of noise, she was granted a two-day hearing in Dec. 2022 to prove Maricopa County’s voting machines were corrupted. Although Lake promised a lot of bombshells in her tweets and on Newsmax,
the trial was a dud, with Lake’s team proving nada. As soon as Judge Peter Thompson ruled, however, Lake was filming another video tweet, saying how she just needs $25 or whatever to take down the deep state (she’s raised more than
$2.5 million since the election).
Next Lake jumped to the signature verification issue, and
she was granted a three-day hearing this month to prove Maricopa County did not adequately verify signatures on mail-in ballots, which is the way most people in Arizona vote. No, Lake
didn’t prove anything there either, other than Maricopa County has a good verification system.
Lake and her attorneys have been sanctioned at least twice during this horror show: once after the first lawsuit she filed with Mark Finchem, and
again this month by the Arizona Supreme Court after she filed another appeal with them. Unfortunately, both sanctions were minimal, just a few thousand dollars, not even enough to cover court fees. Now Maricopa County is
seeking sanctions that mean something.
“The misstatements of fact from Lake and her counsel are not a series of mere accidents or zealous advocacy; they represent a determined program of misinformation,” Deputy Maricopa County Attorney Tom Liddy wrote in the filing.
“Lake and her counsel have absolutely no excuse for offering these falsehoods in Court and should face sanctions from this Court,” he added.
...
“Ethical parties would have been suitably admonished by both the Supreme Court’s statement that they made ‘unequivocally false’ statements to the Court and the monetary sanction that the Supreme Court consequently issued,” Liddy wrote. “But Lake and her counsel were not deterred. Instead, they were inexplicably emboldened.”
Similar to Trump, who keeps demeaning E. Jean Carroll even after he was fined $5 million for doing just that, Lake can’t quit lying about the 2020 and 2022 elections even after she’s lost every court case and was sanctioned for continuing her lies.
Lake is already grifting off her latest court loss, holding rallies with other deniers and lying lying lying. Enough of these slaps on the wrist.
Make the sanctions hurt.
UPDATE: Well,
that sucks.
A Maricopa County judge declined to award sanctions sought by county lawyers against Republican Kari Lake and her legal team after a three-day trial that affirmed Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs' election victory….
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson, however, ruled Friday that Lake's failure to prove her claim by clear and convincing evidence doesn't mean it was "groundless" and "not made in good faith."
Please Sir, can I have some more. And more. Because that’s what it’ll be. After her smackdown by the court this week, Lake will spin this ruling as a victory and turn the revenge tour up to 11. She has
never produced a piece of evidence to support her numerous claims, controversies, and suspicions. If
that isn’t “groundless”!
Doesn’t matter, soon CNN will air a town hall with Lake.
