As a Purdue fan all I can say is thanks Michigan. You kick our ass in football and in the last three years basketball as well and now it's good to know we will have basketball supremacy against you once again.
Also, we tried the PC selection process as well with Darrell Hazell for our football coach from 2013 to 2016 and it was like a self imposed death penalty. He had a 9-33 overall record with a 3-24 Big Ten Conference record during that span. Left the place gutted. It's nice to have a quality coach now.
That was an impressive win by Michigan/Howard after being off for a couple of weeks. I'm sore and pissed though as I had Wisky in what I thought was a terrific situation for them. They couldn't buy a basket for most of the second half. Michigan's D clamped down on them.
When Juwan Howard was hired as Michigan’s men’s basketball coach in May of 2019, many questioned the decision.
Howard’s hire “raises all kinds of concerns and question marks,” read one article. Another called it “a huge risk.” A radio host said, “Hiring Juwan
Howard is nothing more than a PR stunt and an admission you couldn’t get a quality candidate.”
Halfway through his second season, Howard has Michigan ranked third nationally, on top of the Big Ten, with the country’s No. 1 recruiting class on the way.
Howard’s coaching acumen, in games and during practices, has proven to be exceptional. Just ask Michigan’s two senior transfers.
“We do every drill with a purpose,” Chaundee Brown said. “At other schools, coaches do drills just to buy time. Coach (Howard) has an explanation for every drill and why it can apply to ourselves or to the game.”
Purdue coach Matt Painter, 0-3 against Howard, said last month, “Juwan Howard has done an exceptional job. The culture he’s been in with the Miami Heat definitely comes out. You can see the discipline, the toughness, the execution. They run a lot of good stuff, man. They really put you in a bind.”
