I'm also pleading the 5th, but can say that I'm much wiser than I was in the past & have never hit or been hit by anyone when driving.

It's all about the mindset, or the lack thereof.

If I drink 4 beers in a 3 hour period I can drive safely. At 6 in 3 hours, I'm probably impaired. More than 6, I should be locked up for driving.

Fortunately for me, I live in a city where catching a taxi is as easy as walking 5 feet to the curb and hailing one. I'll be moving to the suburbs soon so I have no idea how I'm going to handle going out to dinner and having a glass or two of wine or a couple of beers with my meal then driving home. What do you suburbanites do? Not drink with your meals away from home?

When I was young, I was in a small town in California, with a 21 drinking limit.

We did not drink then drive..we drank while driving, on the nightly cruise. It was very commonplace.

Over the couple years I engaged in this "social" activity, followed by years in the military, I can say I have had huge amounts to drink then driven afterwards. I have never received a ticket while drinking, nor been in an accident while drinking.

I was lucky.

Looking back, its a miracle to me that as young and drunk as I often was (and the group of people who were also doing it), that there were not many accidents and fatalities.

Nowadays, I seldom drink at all. And if I do have more than a single dinner cocktail, I would not consider driving at all. Its not worth the risk, not just to me, but to everyone else on the road.

I've been taking the train over to my buddies to watch the games. They even have a snack car that serves beer. Just not worth it to drink and drive

One beer and I'm giddy. Two and I'm lippy. Three and I'm not allowed anywhere near men.
