What do you think of chew? I just started, and I really like it. I don't want to become addicted, but I know I am already a bit. Is it dangerous?

Jones - give me your record in MLB and I'll smoke, drink, inject, or snort anything you tell me to.

Never liked the dip but the big wad I did like. Wouldn't get into it though if I could do it all over again. The gum disease is getting off pretty easy.

May have been influenced as a kid growing up in Chicago by White Sox Nellie Fox. Actually a disfiguring amount in his cheek. Thought it to be cool. Afterward when I began my tour of the bush leagues it was a natural for me.

Nellie Fox died at a relatively young age. Cancer of the mouth I believe it was.

I've never smoked, and I don't drink that often. But I started chewing around friends that do, and I loved the buzz I got from it. Unbelieveable. Even now, I get a big buzz if I chew after a few beers. I know it's a bad habit, but I really haven't worried about it. Tell me if I should quit, Mr. Jones, you know about it.

Have smoked Amoroso before. Not a a very good cigar. Production quality was not good; poorly rolled way too tight. Almost tasteless.

I don't think they are in production anymore and a lot of places are moving them very cheap if they still have them in stock.

Hopefully others experience with them will be more positive , but don't let a negative experience with this particular cigar be the basis for whether you enjoy a good cigar now and then.

Chewing is terrible for you. It's just as bad as drinking or smoking. I'm no expert but that's what my doctor told me.

That explains the 50% price off of retail, maybe 60%. Can't judge before trying but thanks for the input Lakerfan. I used to say there is no such thing as a bad cigar or BJ. And that does not stand for a 21. I was wrong on both counts. Price is still right. Mine are individually cased, at least that is what I asked for, so can pass them around. Will post my review after sampling. A no shit assessment. Best Wsihes...OF

Hey guys, speaking of cigars, I have not had a cigarette since my hospitalization several months ago revealed heart disease. Cut my drinking down now too more than 50% at least.

Still every now and then I get that little nic fit. Not too hard to overcome. But I used to enjoy a quality cigar and good chew as well [particularly back in the ball playing days]. I did smoke cigs as well too at the same time. Getting kind of hot down here now so I'll probably break out the Levi Garrett if I commence to doing some work outside on the spread here. To sort of wet the whistle lol, although over the years I have developed gum disease and have lost some teeth.

So maybe a quality stogie every now and then is the answer. It's not like I'm uncontollably craving nicotine, but I don't think a quality cigar on occasion would be a problem and it certainly would be a great enjoyment. Can't imagine it would become a regular thing, but just a little concerned that the chew or stogies could lead to the cigarettes again. Any thoughts or advice?

Good job on the discpline. A lot of people including several of my good friends never make the changes necessary no matter what the consequences. You deserve kudos.

Illini, don't go there. Chewing tobacco causes many many deaths each year. Given, nothing like alcohol and cigarettes, but chewing tobacco and cigars in excess are a quiet killer.

Just did my friend....quit.

Remember I smoked cigarettes too. So I didn't find it that addictive. I was already addicted to the cigarettes. Addionally needed the chew cause it was tough to smoke during the game and you didn't want a nic craving while coming to bat in a crucial situation late in the game which is when you'd get it for sure. The chew functioned like some kind of morphine drip.

Anyway I had no trouble quiting the chew for quite a while till I coached for a few years in the 8O's. It was a psychological thing for me. When I smelled the newly mowed grass, heard the thump of a heater in a catchers glove along with the crack of ball hitting bat, it was just a Pavlovian stimulus/ response kind of thing.

Eventually began to chew again when working outdoors in the heat as it does keep your mouth moist and keeps you from having to drink as much water. But whats wrong with drinking water? Remember we were given handfuls of salt pills by trainers way back then and discouraged from drinking too much water during the game. WTF. Then there would be cases of beer in the clubhouse or on the team bus afterward.... if and only if the game got put in the W column that is.

Yeah we tried to win for the beer more than anything else. lol.

BTW. Thanks Jaypaw but I've hit a bump in the road. Gonna bench myself for at least one day maybe a few.
