Yup. I didn't want to believe it either. After having an account with them for 4 years and accumulating some 15 million Netpoints (that's $15 million in transactions) and never a single dispute of any kind, I get the ole' heave ho. For what? For being in one of their "non-serviced" countries and drawing their attention to that by requesting a check. Apparently it's some new policy of theirs.

Hungary joined the EU on May 1, 1994. That means that Hungarians can open an account at the Paris main office of Credit Lyonnais, say, or the Frankfurt main branch of Creditanstalt, two of the largest and most solid banks of Europe, and get the same treatment as any other EU citizens. We can even get jobs at those banks or any other employer without having to apply for a work permit. There is reciprocity between all EU nations on all official matters involving its citizens. Governments, major financial institutions and major corporations in Europe trust Hungarians just as they do their own citizens.

But not Neteller.

Neteller doesn't trust Hungarians. They probably had a few bad experiences and figured the easiest solution is to just wipe the country off the map. OK, fine, but why do I have to get punished for the crimes of a handful of fraudsters!!!????

Now I have to explain everything to all the books I have an account with because most only let you withdraw using the same method you deposited with and for me that was always Neteller. It's hard enough to explain the usual stuff about toll free numbers not being toll free, us not having states (can you say NOT APPLICABLE or are you going to ask me for the 3rd frickin time what state I'm in when I'm not in ANY FRICKIN STATE) or 5-digit zip codes, SWIFT codes instead of ABA #s and the list goes on...they will surely think I'm a crook trying to put one over on them and they'll surely invoke the compulsory body cavity searches. Rover! Sniff that man's butt!

Oh well, I figure none of this applies to anyone here since you all have two letter state codes and 5-digit zip codes, but I just had to get this off my chest -- thanks for listening.

sorry to hear that.
Is there anyway they would permit it if you opened a bank account in another EU country?

Assassin,

They did not give me any options -- I wrote them a long letter... no response, just a unilateral decision. I think they have issues with my IP address being from Hungary as well as my mailing address. I doubt a European bank would make a difference, but thanks anyway for the suggestion.

Players and K1...HA HA very funny. Glad you're K1 and not K9 or they'd have you sniffing my butt...yucch!

Did you try calling them?
Or live chat?
Usually things like this involve finding the right person with the appropriate authority level to help strucutre a solution, not some midless automoton that is just doing what they are told. Worth a shot I would think.

Yes I tried live chat and they told me the bosses were reviewing my case and that I should wait. Presumably they got my letter and it took 2 days for them to figure out what they wanted to do.

Then when they gave me the bad news it was from someone higher up, not an automated response, but they only gave one line of justification saying it was their new policy, then they listed a bunch of transactions which would settle the remaining balance on my account -- basically sending all my money back to the sportsbooks.

I suppose I could call them, but it looks like they've thought this through and I can't imagine it being any use. If I had any chance at all they wouldn't have done those transactions without asking my permission first.

Incidentally the only book who has still not accepted the Neteller reversal is Pinnacle. Very interesting since they are usually very fast. I assume they don't agree with what Neteller is doing here which for me I guess is a good thing.

15 mil ??? WTF? That is incredible! I have 4 million points and thought that was a lot, damn!

You are doing very well in bonuses I would think.

Are you Hungarian or just live in Hungary?

Not that it's pertenant to your problem, but 15 million netpoints = $1.5 million in transfers. Still a shitload.

So you've done over a million in business with them over the years and never had a problem and they told you to GFY like that? How do I short their stock?

15 million Netpoints = $1.5 million in transactions...that's right...$15 million did seem kind of high LOL.

And that was over 4 years so it's really not that much -- a bit over $1000 a day in transactions, which is basically a $2500 deposit and a $2500 withdrawal every 5 days. When you think of it that way it's not really that much. Usually it's just rebalancing when I win at one book and lose at another.

Most of those did not come with a bonus since I tended to stick with elite books like Pinnacle and WSEX who don't give bonuses for reloads, or have conditions like no withdrawals in last 30 days, no winning etc.

I am a Hungarian-Canadian dual citizen which means I can pull out whichever passport is more advantageous. Being Canadian makes it easy to travel to the US since Hungarians usually require a visa. And in Europe it's better to be Hungarian since they don't even open the passport most of the time.

I suppose if I pressed the issue and used only my Canadian address, ID etc. I could get my account restored but then I'd have to involve the family to forward any checks, and every time there's a personnel change they could disable my account again because of my Hungarian IP address...too much hassle. Also the debit card turned out to be a big disappointment because of expnesive currency exchange. Basically it's clear Neteller does not care to be truly international and I don't feel comfortable dealing with a company like that from here. I'll just have to keep higher balances at the books to minimize transactions, do book-to-book transfers more often, stick with super elite books ... stuff that probably can't hurt anyway.

This is such B.S. You are obviously a good customer to Neteller. You don't scam them, etc. And then they boot you.

I wish I had the resources, as I would open up a shop that could compete with them. Neteller will eventually do this to Americans as well, so people should get ready. I am still peeved over their total non-response to my concerns when the Congress was getting ready to pass the law that would have made it illegal to deal with them.

This is more proof we need a better system.

Apollo,

Thanks for that. I have considered something similar myself -- there's a big opportunity here to compete with these guys because they have some big weak spots ...

- lack of international thinking
- useless netpoints system in which each point is worth 0.000001 cents or something like that.
- crappy customer service relating to debit card
- crappy exchange rates on debit card
- inability to send bank wire payouts while happily accepting bank wire deposits.
- black box feeling with difficulty in communication with competent persons

In any business the number 1 thing IMO is respect for your customers. But unfortunately their monopoly situation (almost) lets them behave this way without any repercussions. On the bright side it sure beats getting stiffed, though.
