Joe Mazzulla will return as coach of Celtics, says Brad Stevens.

Not to rail road completely off topic...

But what is Heat culture again? To win with superstars and not to be able to get over the hump without one? Seems more like NBA culture.

When Heat lose in 5 is the narrative not going to be "we need to get Jimmy another super star(better number 2) to play with?"

I mean they can prove me wrong with a championship here---doubtful.

But back to topic. They obviously had to keep Joe.

Its his first year he was a game from the Finals. He will get better.

The Cs also made it to far as all the other coaches they perhaps could have thought of have been taken. All you could go with is another project

Plus firing Joe after 1 year would make Stevens look weak. U get rid of Ima and than fire the guy u replaced him with after 1 year. Would have been a bad look for him.

What could Brad Stevens teach him? How to lose your team and watch them tank 4 play off games in a row in ho hum fashion and lose in 2nd round?

Is Boston also Butler University? The high esteem some in Boston hold Brad Stevens is undeserved

I love Brad Stevens. He vastly over accomplished with the roster he had. Then the C's totally fucked up their chemistry with Cryrie Irving, two lost years. He finished his coaching tenor with an injury prone roster that happened to be very young.

When he called timeout to set up a play, the C's always got a bunny, always.

His free agent signings have been great too. The man understands hoops.

Joe Mazzulla has to learn from his mistakes. He has to emphasize defense first, that's been their indentity. He wanted to run a 3 point high scoring team, they're not GS. Back to the basics, or he won't last long

Joe Mazzulla remains head coach of the Boston Celtics and will return next season, team president Brad Stevens said Thursday.
"He's a terrific leader," Stevens said. "He'll only get better at anything that he can learn from this year, because he's constantly trying to learn. And he's accountable."
Mazzulla, 34, led the Celtics to a 57-25 record and the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference in his first season on the bench. Boston's season ended Monday with a Game 7 loss to the Miami Heat in the East finals.
Mazzulla took over when coach Ime Udoka was suspended for the season in September for multiple violations of team rules. He reportedly had an intimate relationship with an unidentified female staff member.
Three Celtics assistant coaches -- Ben Sullivan, Aaron Miles and Mike Mose -- are reportedly leaving to rejoin Udoka, who was named head coach of the Houston Rockets last month.
Stevens said the Celtics do plan to add at least one assistant coach with extensive NBA experience on the bench this summer, filling the spot vacated when Damon Stoudamire left to become Georgia Tech's coach in March.
As far as changes to the roster, Stevens said while they will always monitor the league landscape for potential additions who could help, he likes his team's existing core.
Due to NBA rules that restrict what executives are allowed to say about players with pending contracts, Stevens declined to speak specifically on the decisions needed to be made this offseason involving Jaylen Brown (eligible to sign a five-year supermax extension July 1) and restricted free agent Grant Williams.
"I've had nothing but great conversations with Jaylen," Stevens said. "I can say, without a doubt, we want Jaylen to be here. He's a big part of us. We believe in him and I'm thankful for him. ... I'm really thankful that when those guys have success they come back to work. And when they get beat, they own it and they come back to work. And so I know that's what they're about. And that's hard to find."
Stevens believes Williams got caught in a numbers situation regarding his reduced time in the rotation this season.
He is a good player who was on a really deep team," Stevens said. "With the addition of [Malcolm] Brogdon last year, it was going to require that guys that had gotten a little more opportunity weren't going to get as much. That obviously hit a few of our players. ... But everybody around the league knows Grant can add value to any team."
Whatever happens, Stevens said, it will start with doing as little as possible to disrupt the infrastructure of a team he believes has the bones to be a championship team.
"At the end of the day we love our foundation. We love our core. And that's really our focus and our priority," Stevens said.

Warriors were not some 3 point hunting team when they won their championships. They shot a fair amount but also happened to have arguably the top two three point shooters in the history of the game

They were elite defensively, huge reason why they were so successful overall

I'm curious to see if they part ways with Brown.
You made that prediction.

KD carried them twice

Then Wiggins played like KD for one series

And good god, they're credited with revolutionizing the game with their 3 point shooting, but now they're not a three point shooting team

Whatever

They were middle of the pack in terms of 3 point attempts a lot of those years. Teams like the Rockets were teams that jack them up and didn't believe in mid range

Warriors just great at making them, hence why they changed the game

Wiggins was better than Tatum/Brown, but he was nothing like KD lol jesus

The Eastern Final represented the biggest coaching competence disparity in the history of organized sport.

Disaster move by the Celts. You need an experienced coach leading these kids, not a kid.
These guys gonna listen to Joe Mazzulla? Get outa here....

And give me a break with they have MANY problems....thats ridiculous.
There main problem is the first man on their bench.

Should have taken advantage of size, like Denver did in game one. Instead he played for the three

Since he's coming back, I can only hope that he learns something from his experience. And experience is the world's greatest teacher.

I also think 4 coaches in 4 years would not be good for the franchise

He’s far from a good coach but who are they gonna get that’s much better

Celtics do have problems. They’re very talented but they don’t fit that well together tbh

With all the firings lately?? I’d take any of them.

Brown and Tatum arent exactly peanut butter and jelly, but they have arguably the most talented roster in the league. A few guys ran out of steam like Pats Fan mentioned, but they’re good enough to win the whole thing.

The players are running the team right now and that’s the main issue.

Somehow the coaches have to find a way to get Williams into NBA shape and stay on the court…replace Horford with some young talent…

Maybe Adama Sanogo from UConn can help the Celts

I'd love to see the C's give him a chance. Somebody has to give him a chance

He's worked too hard, improved too much, and is too great a person to be ignored
