I can't think of a less deserving and less creative artist to put in the HOF as Jett. What did she ever do besides I Love Rock & Roll? The only thing I can remember is she did a bunch of other artists songs. Her opening number for the show wasn't even her own song, it was Tommy James & The Shondells. The show is on HBO right now.

At least they got it right in inducting the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. That was a great song and band to introduce them. They couldn't have found a better choice on harp than Jason Ricci. He is the hottest harp player in the country right now...

I was thinking the exact same thing..She has no business being in the HOF..If you look at who ISN'T in, that makes this choice even more mind boggling

This thread was posted weeks ago... we basically decided RNRHOF is worthless.

Also, rap inductees is a disgrace. Why can't they build the "hip hop ghetto of fame"?
It should be reserved for Rock N Roll.

Having said that, it's not a prestigious club anymore anyways. They might as well let everybody in.

I have my own opinions on the legitimacy and credibility of the Rock'n'Roll HOF (they're not good). Induction is too heavily influenced by popularity, sales, and being perceived as mainstream. Nonetheless, I kinda disagree with the above sentiments. I think Joan Jett is genuine and fits the definition of Rock'n'Roll more so than just about any other female artist and I don't believe she ever compromised her principles. Not an easy thing to do. She's also not without talent. IMO, her biggest claim to fame was as a founding member of the Runaways, who were truly unique in the time that they emerged. Lack of original material is worthy of criticism, but if others could do it, they would.

Seen others mention artists like Pat Benatar, etc. That would truly be puke inducing.

I saw Joan Jett open for Aerosmith 6 or 7 years ago and I thought she was great.

And Jethroe Tull and The Dooby Brothers are not in the HOF.

WTF
This was really my point more than anything. If they are going to let Joan Jett et all in, make them wait in line for the much more deserving artists with a much bigger and more creative catalog of music like the Doobies and Tull...They made Lou Reed wait in line for these "cheaper" acts and look what happened. He died before he was able to enjoy the reward..

Her best song has to be "Bad Reputation."

On the popish side of punk rock, but still punk sounding.

R&R HoF is way to easy to get into. JoanJett does not deserve to be in...sorry, I like her but not HOF stuff. She is iconic as a female rock babe so that may have been the reason but if I had a vote I'd pass on her. Same with SRV. That may offend a few here but his early demise has alot to do with his induction.

If I was running the deal, I would have made one induction only this year and that would have been Lou Reed. Ringo can wait. Greenday can wait. Beck did a good job with Satellite of Love" but the backup singers were overused. Surprising that Tull is not in, have to think they go in within next 2 years.

I think SRV would have gotten in much sooner had he still been alive. He bridged the gap between blues and mainstream rock better than any musician that I've ever seen. I also think he was the greatest blues rock guitarist who ever lived. Hendrix might have been the only exception. That alone should have got him in sooner than it did. I was lucky enough to see him play live twice. I've never seen anybody like him before or since. And I've pretty much seen all the best out there.

I know he had great guitar playing ability and skill but his songs, save for "Cold Shot" never grabbed me. Not shocked that he got in as he has tons of fans. But similar to Nirvana, I think the death factor has alot to do with popularity. I like Nirvana alot but they might be the most overrated rock act ever. I've seen where they are considered Top 5 of all time crap.

BTW, good to mention Hendrix with SRV, i've always noticed the similarity. They could both do magic with a guitar, I'll give him that.

I have a bigger problem with Green Day getting in than Joan Jett
I don't know why the HOF feels with some of these bands that the minute their 25 year qualification comes up for their first record release, they have to be inducted right then and there on the spot. This is the Hall's biggest problem, they have no pecking order for bands or artists. The Five Royals who were also inducted the other night, had none of it's members alive to accept a reward. That's really a shame because they may have been the most influential band inducted that night. I think Green Day 'eventually' deserved to get in, They use some pretty creative chord structures in their music for a punk band, and I kind of like it even though punk isn't my thing. But that was another group that is still young and has many years of music left to make music. They aren't going to be going to the great gig in the sky anytime soon..I'm still pissed that Jett got in over some of my personal favorite bands/artists like Los Lobos, Warren Zevon, ELO, Thin Lizzy, J. Geils Band, Blue Oyster Cult. The Guess Who, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Doobies, Tull. What really is a shame is they have also neglected some of the groundbreaking bands like the Moody Blues, who were the first to use a melatron and an orchestra in their music. They also leave out Three Dog Night every year. Nobody had more success than them between 1968-75, 21 top 40 hits. And some very good ones out of that bunch. Many more than Jett had.

Agree.

Why isn't Deep Purple in? They have been around since '66, still making music. For any DP fan, the new Whitesnake album (Purple) is worth a listen. All remakes of Coverdale's work from his DP days.
