I think he meant Little Rock, like where he's from and where Taylor I believe is from too. Here's my analysis for what it's worth. Taylor is an excellent fighter with an excellent pedigree. He's got a very good jab (not GREAT, but very good), he's strong, he can go the distance as he did against Joppy, he's pretty quick, and the point that everyone seems to have been making so far (though I question how relevant it really is, as you'll see), he's young and he's VERY hungry. In other words, this kid's got a legitimate shot at beating Hopkins, because as much as people hate to admit it, age is huge in boxing, and in his fight vs. Eastman Hopkins didn't look like he was always one step ahead like he normally is (he still dominated, but there seemed like there was a little lag in his movements, though this could've been attributed to the fact he was fighting an inferior opponent).

BUT, there's one huge factor in this fight that I think people are overlooking. Hopkins is the ultimate when it comes to mental toughness and mind games. You saw it at the weigh in. He had Taylor in his face (the two looked like they were about to make out they were so close) screaming a buncha nonsense... which is precisely what Taylor should NOT be doing. Taylor needs to focus on his gameplan and use his age and his jab to his advantage, keeping outside of Hopkins and trying to out box him (which has been done before only once, by an at the time unbeatable roy jones jr.). This is why I think experience and Hopkins's mental advantage wins out. Gameplans are great till you get hit... and Hopkins is the master at making a fight fit what he wants to do on that given night. If Taylor had been in there with one or two legitimate contenders before this fight (a tune-up fight with Eastman I think would've been perfect for Taylor), then I think he'd have a much better shot. Just look at what happened to Jason Litzau tonight. Granted, Taylor's much smarter, got more skills, and isn't stupid enough to keep his hands down the entire fight, but it's very easy for a young gun who's undefeated to believe he's on top of the world, and then things don't go the way everyone thought it would (Litzau got caught with a great left hook). Litzau won that fight cuz he wasn't facing a guy who knew how to put it away like Hopkins can. Unfortunately for Taylor, he's getting into the ring with a ring master, a straight thug, and a man who's determined not to be denied.

My prediction: Hopkins by decision.

Of course, I'm not an expert like hardcore, Hilo, or boxlocks, but there's my two cents. Now I'm off to get drunk...

btw... when Hopkins threw down that flag, he knew EXACTLY what he was doing... he completely took Tito out of his game plan, though I think Tito would've lost anyways, but hindsight is 20/20 of course, right?

question for boxlox or j oddessa

did you see a line on vazquez vs mendoza? they kept a line up on vazquez valtierra even after valtierra pulled out but never saw a new line on vazquez mendoza.

if they did put up vazquez mendoza was there also a round prop total?

Thanks for the analysis. BTW, nobody is an expert, bc if we were, I think we would all be rich at this point and wouldnt be sitting here at the rx. haha I think you are right on with what you said. I know im beating a dead horse, but as young as Taylor is, I believe that will be his downfall. His youth.... Hopkins will not lose focus if he loses the first few rounds. Hell he did against DLH. Hopkins will be patient, and I think he will see an opening and hurt this kid, then take control of the fight, then maybe even take him out. When it comes to focused athletes of this generation, we need to put Hopkins up there with Jordan, Armstrong, Gretzky and the rest of the elite. I dont think he is gonna let Taylor take a shortcut to superstardom on his watch.

Taylors people know it would have been better to take a tuneup or 2, but they know its now or never, since Hopkins would have fought someone else, then went on to fight Tarver and maybe Jones. Taylor is taking his shot and making some money.

Im off to go to the sox-yanks game, and hopefully my Yankees can get back after that embarrasment last night. Enjoy the fight everyone, and good luck to those on the X man.

Interesting, it says you're from boston, but you're a yankees fan? Isn't that sacrilege in your area, haha? But yeah, just as an aside, I was also on Litzau yesterday (and felt like I was gonna throw up after he got knocked down, and THEN went to the wrong corner... thought the ref would definitely call it right there), and I think Teddy Atlas summed it up perfectly when he said to Jason after the fight "Keep your hands up next time."

Yes, The Rock is Little Rock, where I and JT are from. He's a good fucking guy. Wife played basketball at Loserana Tech, they have a little kid, and the MOFO can fight.

Hopkins stated that "I won't lose to any country boy from Arkansas" went on to say that "I'd rather walk through a dark alley in Philly than anywhere in Little Rock anyday."

He's right, on the southside, Little Rock gets pretty thuggish, but other than that, great city. No gang bangin' in Little Rock tonight on HBO, our finest is about to fuck this yankee thug up.

Bet it.

Let's get the 'bad intentions' rollin'. Wait till you hear the Arkansas people call the Hogs before the fight. JT said he wanted to hear it, that everytime he has he won.

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Pig Soooooooooie!!!

Selection 1 : Boxing
Jermain Taylor vs Bernard Hopkins
Howard Lederman's Card (Taylor vs Hopkins)
Round 1 (Must Finish Round)

302) B. Hopkins -116

Risking 50.00 to Win 43.10 CAD <CENTER>---</CENTER></PRE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></P>
What I can't figure out is do they just both have to finish the 1st round for the bet to win or does Hopkins have to win the 1st round? Thanks in advance.

""""can taylor be disciplined and build a lead early with the jab?...keep distance?...stay mentally tough through 12?...he`s going to get roughred up....hopkins will be dirty...

if there`s one guy with the skill...the raw material to beat hopkins...it`s taylor...this could be so much more difficult for hopkins than anything he`s seen in years...

i`ll take taylor to be ahead after 6...and hopkins to come on down the stretch...

anyplace you can bet the fight by halves?...

why throw money at it...i can`t...

balls to the wall, hopkins figures a way to get it done...but,he`s in tough here...as tough as he`s been in since roy jones...unless taylor gets intimidated...or loses focus..."""

............................................

as if it were scripted...except,hopkins slept for 8 rounds instead of 6....taylor tired in the last 3...and lost his composure a bit..

but,i think hopkins lost this as much as taylor won it...it was very close...hopkins may have been feeling his age and was waiting to be strong late...a little to late..

but, taylor was wild and wide with shots early...the younger hopkins would have made him pay dearly for those mistakes..

could have gone either way...it was close.....hopkins won the late rounds more convincingly...but did very little early...it`s how many rounds you win...not how convicingly you win them...

what kind of surprised me was that guys were saying that taylor didn`t belong in there with bernard....at 40...after uninspiring fights with dlh and eastman....

it was a hard fight for a 40 year old...he was to conservative early...or,at 40,he just couldn`t take advantage of taylor`s mistakes....father time...or maybe in his mind,he overcompensated...was worried about gassing late...and was to conservative...

compelling fight...not action packed,but interesting...

i have been touting taylor as one of my best bets in a long time. however i was not impressed. he clearly did not let his punches go and the spots won by hopkins were much better than the spots won by taylor but taylor probably won a few more exchanges overall. they both waited way to long to let there hands go. hopkins started to make it a fight around the 8th or 9th.

two other thoughts. boxing has absolutely no stars right now. mayweather could be but he alienates everyone with his mouth and attitude.

lou di bella is a complete ass.

For the record, I still think Hopkins won the fight. Taylor was more active in the beginning, but Hopkins was much more effectual with his punches in the end. Unfortunately, much like the DLH fight where judges were rewarding activity rather than efficacy, things didn't go my way. In any case, I could see how the decision went the way it did, though I do have to agree with Hilo. Taylor has a lot of work to do before he becomes a true champion like Hopkins was (though I suspect Taylor will not be staying at this weight class for much longer... he looks like he's gonna bulk up more).

I also agree, Lou di Bella is a slut.

btw, anyone else excited for Corrales/Castillo 2??? Though I see no way it can be as good as 1, it's still bound to be a good fight.
