This comment makes no sense whatsoever. Because two teams advance, is exactly why you would want to make sure he goes two of the three games. You go 2-0 with your ace you are through to the semi's. The only way it would make sense to throw him once, and it still wouldn't make good sense, is if one team went through where you are saving him for the best team. But your statement is an ignorant one.

if i thought i had a good enough team to potentially win the whole thing... and i also thought that i could win one game with my #2 pitcher, wouldn't i rather finish pool play 2-1, advance, and have my best pitcher for the us semifinal and the world championship game? sounds like you are either just playing to advance from pool play, or are just frustrated that you didnt realize that their ace wasn't pitching, despite the odds which you yourself stated were unusual.

Ofcourse it is frustrating, when you are smarter than the manager. But that has nothing whatsoever to do with how stupid the managers move was. Obviously if you don't go with your best against Bean, you are going to have a difficult time winning. I think you throw your ace at all costs the first game. Then ideally you win the first two games and dont have to throw him in the last game to set it up like you suggested. However if you are 1-1 then the main objective is to get through to the semi's. Cannot win if you arent playing.

it was just a tough decision, being matched against the top team in the pool in the first game. had they played last, then yes, go 2-0 and rest the last game. i think he's just playing to go 2-1, with the first game being the icing on the cake if you win... as opposed to the third game.
