The head of Hamas' politburo, Ismail Haniyeh, said Friday the group was developing its military capabilities and was rebuilding tunnels in preparation for a future conflict with Israel.
"In east Gaza there are heroes digging tunnels under the ground and in the west there are those testing rockets. The Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades are digging tunnels to defend Gaza and turn it into a launch pad for all of Palestine."
During the 2014 Gaza war, Israel unearthed 32 offensive tunnels dug by Palestinians into Israeli territory; roughly a third have since been reconstructed, reaching into Israel.

The presumed leader of the Islamic State operatives who attacked Paris in November, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, boasted that he slipped into Europe among refugees from Syria as part of a team of dozens of militants, according to a key witness.
The woman accompanied Abaaoud's cousin, Hasna Ait Boulahcen, to a hidden encampment north of Paris in the days after the attack to meet Abaaoud.
Abaaoud told them that he arrived in Europe among the refugees, along with 90 other operatives, including French, British, German, Iraqi and Syrian citizens.
The investigation into the Paris attacks has raised questions about Europe's ability to screen refugees for potential threats.

A 10-year-old boy was so brutally raped by an Iraqi migrant in a swimming pool cubicle that he had to be hospitalised for his injuries.
A lifeguard immediately called an ambulance after the boy went to him in floods of tears, while the Iraqi was entertaining himself by repeatedly jumping off the three-metre diving board.
Police arrested him on the spot at the pool in Vienna, and during an interrogation, he told police that it was a 'sexual emergency' as he had not had sex in four months.

The Iraqi, who had been working as a taxi driver in Vienna, told police he knew it was 'a mistake' and did not mean to 'scar the boy', reports Kronen Zeitung.
But the migrant, who had entered the country through the Balkans on September 5, official records show, said he could not help himself as he had an 'excess sexual energy'.

He told police that he knew such an act was 'forbidden in any country of the world', and he was not 'always sick', as he has a wife and a daughter in Iraq.
At first, Austrian did not release details of the rape, on December 2 at The Resienbad pool, to protect the victim.

Reports emerged on Facebook and police said they must be sensitive about cases involving migrants, who have 'been through a lot', but that there would be zero-tolerance.
However, police have now officially announced the details of the shocking crime.
Austrian media have also been following another case of a 13-year-old girl who is allegedly repeatedly being raped by her 26-year-old husband, who she married in Syria.
However, the teenager has not spoken against her husband, who is claiming that he has the right to have sex with her after their marriage was consummated, under Islamic law.

A group of 51 refugees were brutally assaulted outside a night club in Murmansk, Russia, after they groped and molested women at a night club Saturday.


The refugees had previously been ordered to leave Norway for “bad behavior” and tried their luck in Russia. What they didn’t realize when they went out clubbing in Murmansk is that Russians have less tolerance when it comes to sexual assault on local women than other European countries.


The refugees allegedly groped and harassed women in a similar manner as the assaults in Cologne on New Year’s Eve. A group of male Russian took them aside to “educate” them that “Cologne is 2,500 kilometers south of here.”


The refugees tried to flee but were quickly captured by the Russians. They then took them out to the street and gave them a beating they will remember. Police arrived to break up the fight but locals report that they threw a few punches at the refugees before arresting 33 of them. Eighteen refugees were in such bad condition they had to be take to the hospital.


Police decided to let the beatings slide and didn’t file a report. The only thing they could confirm was that there was “a mass brawl involving refugees.”

Guernsey's decision not to accept Syrian refugees onto the island was because officials could not guarantee the migrants' 'security', claims its chief minister.
Jonathan Le Tocq said 'negativity' would make it difficult to guarantee the safety of any migrants.
He claimed there was a danger that some residents might be unwelcoming - despite most people showing compassion.

Guernsey's chief minister Jonathan Le Tocq said the decision not to accept Syrian refugees onto the island was because he could not guarantee the migrants' 'security'

He told the BBC: 'There's certainly a lot of Islamophobia and negativity that's been around and that would entail that it would be difficult for us to ensure that [the refugees] would find the sorts of security and stability here in Guernsey, were they to be resettled here, in the same way as they are, say, in other parts of the UK.'
Following the remarks, aid worker Eddie Parks branded the minister's comments 'disgraceful', reported the broadcaster.
The former journalist said it was an 'awful awful commentary' on Guernsey and that the island had an 'amazing reputation' for accepting 'other people coming in from outside'.
Mr Le Tocq's comments came just two days after the government confirmed the island would not be taking in refugees.



The island was looking to participate in the UK government’s Syrian Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme, which offers temporary resettlement to refugees, but it later confirmed it wouldn't be taking any migrants in.
The government said the island lacked the 'supporting infrastructure which meets their specific needs'.
They said there was a number of legal and practical issues relating to refugee rights which must be understood and resolved.
The government pledged to work on the legal barriers, which would assist in helping the island rehome migrants in the future.
Mr Le Tocq's said he was disappointed with the decision.

They don't play well with others. And as far as I'm concerned I lost the debate hoping moderaion and modernity would eventuall win out over radicalsm. It doesn't matter. Even if only 4 out of 100 Muslims are radicalized it's too many. Because what do you get when you mix pure water with just a little poison? 100% poison!
