So will :bong: crack

No seriously smoking crack aside, its all about finding a comfortable rhythm, and once you get into one you would be surprised at how far you can run in each session.

That's what I found out after starting a running regimen. Was running 6.5 miles a day and then suddenly my knees and hips were killing me. I've had a few knee surguries and that was the end of the running days.

I have talked to many long time runners who have NO PROBLEMS with there joints and if your giving your body breaks in between runs and not Leaping up and down when running , which means running correctly there is no better exercise for your heart then running..the body was meant to run ...

its not easy to do but you need to get out there and exercise or face death early with clogged artieries and fat

Running can be so brutal on your body. Used to have dreams of running Boston in under 3 hours but that faded away after I screwed my knee up in the River Run few years back. Going over the Main Street Bridge foot landed funny and got caught in the teeth of the drawbridge, couldn't run for months and by the time I could run again I had gained too much weight. It's ashame to I used to love running because of how it made me feel and of how skinny I was. Used to be 150 lbs and now creeping toward 250

Dante, any sites you would recommend with a running guide to follow?

I am trying to get into doing some more cardio but don't want to overwhelm myself at first... any ideas?

HinesWard86,

If you still have even a small love for running then I would suggest you run on a treadmill and work your way back into it. The treadmill isnt as hard on your body and joints as it has a little " give " in it. I had a bad back and couldnt run for a while but found running on a treadmill much easier on the body. Give it a try, you might be surprised, and you can drop plenty of that weight in no time.

Running to me is the best high in life......I use to run to the Rocky IV soundtrek and it would intensify my mood........unfortunately, I cant do it anymore because of fluid buildup in my knees coupled with tendonitis......keep up the fine work Dante.......nice job

I recently started running everyday after my workouts at Lifestyles.

Started with a mile and went up a 1/4 mile everyday. Am up to 4 miles now. I want to get up to about 5 or 6 miles, but my shins are starting to kill me. So I'll probably start doing the girly elliptical machine andsee if that offers any relief.

Nothing like having the rocky 4 soundtrack to get you through that last mile though, so I had to reply to this.

used to be an accomplished runner in high school...ran 40-50 miles a week and a 4:39 pr mile...it was like a drug...only needed 6 hrs a night sleep and the next day it was like i was on speed because i had so much energy...stick with it...work as hard on your diet as you do your running and you'll get stronger and stronger...lots of fresh fruits, vegetables. beans, unsalted nuts, water, soymilk etc...

Don't get too addicted if your in it for the weight loss.

Running burns alot of calories which contributes to the fat loss but did you also know that you can also lose muscle? Running makes you lose both fat and muscle since muscle is also an energy source your body will use.

When you lose muscle, you lose metabolisim.

Make your body into a Super fat loss machine by combining both weight lifting and cardio into your workout.

Muscle needs to repair after lifting and this requires energy and calories to help restore muscle as you rest which translates into a higher metabolism rate.

Running is good, keep it up.
