My God this is ridiculous, almost a 30 point game in an NBA final.....

NBA should really start considering doing some kind of cross country playoff system to weed out crappy teams in the first few rounds....

This is just stupid.... 89 62 end of the third quarter....give me a break.

Well last year the East won... and two years ago the West won, and three years ago the East won... so it will be 2-2 in the last 4 years after this year

Plus G.S. and Utah emerging with very good teams of the future, throw in Oden and Durant which will be drafted by the west as well, it looks to only get more lopsided...Miami and Detroit appear to be on a major decline too.

Michael Wilbon said at halftime "this looks an opening round NCAA game in BOISE where a 1 seed is playing a 16 seed."

Or something close to that.

the East is going to be great in 2-3 years....

Bulls
Cavs
Magic
Raptors

... just to name a couple, all of those teams are going to be very good in a few years, maybe sooner

Or when you root for a George Mason to reach the Final Four , then think 'WTF was I thinking' the following weekend.

The Mavs won the first two games by double digits last year and people were saying the same thing. In 1998 the Bulls beat the Jazz by 42 points. No other game in the series was decided by double digits. IMO, the Cavs will win Game 3.

This isn't unprecedented, and over time it will fix itself. The larger problem is the coaching in the East. Look at the conference finals. Saunders and Brown are two of the worst coaches in the NBA. Sloan and Popovich are two of the best 10 coaches in the history of the game. Phil Jackson is in the West. Don Nelson is in the West. D'Antoni is a very good coach. Karl and Johnson are pretty good coaches.

Who is the best coach in the East? Riley? He's past his prime and seems overly content after last year. But who else in the East would you honestly say is a better coach than any of those seven above? Maybe Lawrence Frank? Isaiah is a joke. Doc Rivers is a joke. Sam Mitchell won the Coach of the Year and looked like a deer in the headlights in the playoffs. Eddie Jordan is no good. Skiles is a pretty good coach, but it doesn't seem like his players like him. Orlando should be very good the next couple years, but is Stan Van Gundy going to take them to a championship? Doubtful.

Obviously Seattle and Portland must have sucked to get the 1-2 picks. Lakers on the way down too. If Sloan retires, bye bye Utah. GS has one good season per decade. Clippers are still the Clippers.

All it takes is one strong team to represent the East. When Chicago won their first 3 championships in the 90s, although not as obvious, the west were stronger. How about sending San Antonio to Buffalo or Nashville?

West may seem more dominate over the East right now , and they are. But throughout the history of the NBA , the contrast seems to even out over time. For example over the last 20 years , each Conference has won 10 titles each. Going back to 1976 when the ABA merged with the NBA The East has won 16 Titles versus 15 for the West. While the West currently holds the key to balance of power in current times , its not unreasonable at all to see that shift to the East in upcoming years. From 1989-1998 , The East won 8 of 10 Titles .. and many said at that time ,they were the superior conference ( which they were ) granted this was during Michael Jordans heyday and 6 Championships, but all that shows is one player or one great team can make all the difference in the domination of the League. Currently its easy to say the West is the best, because of our recent memories regarding the sport. But going back and looking at the League over time , one can see that both conferences deserve credit or critique depending on which time period you examine.

When Chicago and the East were dominating that decade, the teams from the west were very good though and there were several...LAL PORT UTAH SEA HOU PHO...the West was probably the better conference overall besides the Bulls.

Probably , but not definitely ... The East teams playing 2nd fiddle to the Bulls were no push overs, and ultimately the final curtain call for the Conference goes to the Winner. Whos to say that Ewings Knicks wouldnt have beat Barkleys Suns in the big stage .. The Knicks took Houston to 7 in a very tight and close series during Jordans baseball stint. Whose to say Reggie Millers 98' Pacer team who lost to Chicago in game seven by 5 points wouldnt have beaten the Jazz in the finals who lost to Chicago in 6. The East teams were arguably just as good in Jordans time , the problem being for them and everybody else in the league was , it was Jordans time.

This years draft lottery certainly didnt help the imbalance of west having the better squads.

Thats a good point. But who knows there might be a big trade on draft day , and one of those studs may be heading towards the Atlantic. I doubt it too, but who knows ... the tides have a funny way of shifting. Maybe Lebron gets his 2nd Superstar sooner than we think or Garnett decides to switch leagues. I certainly agree that the West is the superior conference, don't get me wrong. Just attempting a little Devils advocate here , especially when I read a title to a post saying the NBA should step in and do something about it. Because the NBA will look at the same statistics I just pointed out in my above post ... The numbers of WINNERS represented by each Conference over set period of time ... and those numbers are dead-even.
