No, silly bear, that's not "what the times call for" -- it's ALWAYS been this way.

Would have hated to see all these whiners during the Great Depression, WW II or WW I.

This coddled MTV generation demanding govt "ease their pain" sucks.

:pucking:

been what way?

i call the short term swings in the grand scheme of things there's money to be made doing so

i have no clue if all this shit will lead to a depression or something of that nature will just have to see how it evolves what i do know (or think is a high probability) is we haven't hit rock bottom yet on the equity markets.....more banks will fail...and more gloom and doom is coming.....

obviously there are brighter days ahead for the economy down the road at some point

anyway we getting more off topic joe you can call me whatever you want i see it as a complement the more names i get called :toast:

next up hanna by the way now a category 1 hurricane

intensity and track been shifting for a while

but for now projected to hit SC coast as a strong end cat 1 with 90 mph winds....

and got a depression that will likely be ike at some point behind her (that's projected to be a hurricane east of the bahamas in 5 days)

looking like a busy september on the hurricane front this is the peak time of year

and as far as the US as a country is concerned the port area probably really messed up too

there is tide coming in with the wind whipping from the south now

some town laffite had their mayor on local tv just now and basically said its pretty hopeless and gonna go under as well

Plaquemines Parish levee overtopped, subdivision threatened

by Andrew Vanacore, The Times-Picayune Monday September 01, 2008, 4:43 PM
St. Bernard Parish firefighters and sheriff's deputies are rolling to a levee overtopping in Braithwaite in Plaquemines Parish. Plaquemines Parish workers have been trying to bolster the levee along the Clearwater Canal that is being overtopped by floodwaters that threaten the Braithwaite Park subdivision.

Plaquemines Parish workers have been furiously working on the levee since mid-afternoon. The levee has not breached, but authorities are not hopeful.

"We don't think our efforts are going to be successful so we need to get everyone out now,'' Parish President Billy Nungesser said.

Meanwhile, St. Bernard Parish is sending firefighters, deputies and other workers to the area to help with the efforts.

The canal is on the east bank of the parish. The subdivision is off Louisiana 39.

Officials said the same levee is also being overtopped further south at Scarsdale.

QL, this pic you posted shows a cat 1. this was exaggerated but that is not a bad thing.

At the time I posted the picture it was a cat 3. I thought it was a static picture but I guess it updates so it's a cat 1 now.

gonna be lots of flooding places like mobile alambama been getting blasted

roads flooding along miss gulf coast etc...

all the focus on NO near the city yeah they made it out okay it seems as far as mass number of homes flooded with 10-15 feet of water but overall will be lots of damage....

plus this thing is just slowly drifting WNW and these bands will keep hitting the NO area for a while....like the rains that hit mobile, al all day long

After completely screwing the pooch post-Katrina, Bush went the extra yard to prove how effectively he can respond after a thunderstorm. What else would you expect from a coke-addicted, dislexic? :missingte

Funny thing the local news guys from Houston were outside and dry when broadcasting wind was high and lite rain. The CNN coverage was heavy rain and high winds the guys looked like they went swimming and the winds were going to blow them over.
