he Acer will be much easier to convert to XP once you discover how wonderfull Vista isn't, as Acer provides XP drivers for this unit, and HP does not!!!! In case you think the aversion to Vista is just an opinion, type Vista sucks into the google search bar. It will provide you with a good cross section of technical and user reviews.
Other than that both processors have things that one or the other is better at, If you are just going to surf the net, check email, run a word processor, etc., flip a coin!!! But keep in mind that at some point, you may discover that Vista is not for you, and the coversion process will be significantly less frustrating with the Acer. Let us know how you make out.

Doug, do everything you can to try to get it with XP rather than Vista. Otherwise it will need at least another gb of memory.

that is another way they fuck you.....

I got my system with 1 GIG, I wanted to upgrade to 2 GIG, I figured I would have to buy 1 chip.... WRONG.

there were two 512's in the machine, in order to upgrade to 2 GIG's I had to remove BOTH 512's and insert two 1 GIG's.

I now have two 512's that i dont need (guess i will try to sell them)

I just bought an HPdv6409us with Vista about 2 months ago ( about $550), I've had no problems with Vista.

She definetly wants new, and leans to HP, so I think that= Vista. Somebody else that she is listening to likes HP. I don't want to try to talk her into Acer, then it's my fault if it is a lemon !

I think she is going to have to live with Vista, but I'll warn her that XP is better.

The problem with these salescircular deals is you have to buy it Sun or Mon, maybe Tues, or the store sells out its' stock, then it is on to next week again.

ask your daughter if she would rather get a laptop now or wait until black friday and get a laptop and $200. Easy decision for most

Sales planned for the day after Thanksgiving are already popping up on many Web sites. But at least one retailer, Wal-Mart, has reportedly threatened to sue several Web sites that leak its big "Black Friday" deals. The day after Thanksgiving has traditionally become known as "Black Friday" because of its huge potential for retailers to grow holiday season revenue and thus cross over from operating "in the red" to "in the black."A successful "Black Friday" promotion could make a huge dent into a holiday sales goals for major companies. Consumers often benefit with massive sales that may start as early at 5 a.m. but last only a few hours. Major retailers generally do not release their "Black Friday" sales list until much closer to the day after Thanksgiving. But in recent years, certain Web sites have posted the deals online as early as October.Gottadeal.com bills itself as an official Black Friday deal site. If you go to the site now and click on "Black Friday," you will already find sales information for two retailers: Ace Hardware and Harbor Freight. The site even offers an e-mail sign-up to alert you of new "Black Friday" deals when they are posted. Plus, the site touts more than 130,000 online members who post sales comments on its message boards.Dealtaker.com is another site that offers a sneak peak at "Black Friday" deals into addition to other sales information. By searching for "Black Friday" information now, you'll find deals posted for Sears and Ace Hardware that are "rumored." In fact, the Sears link also has a statement that reads, "Possibly not a true ad due to some non-existent items." Harbor Freight's "Black Friday" ad is listed as well. This site also offers e-mail sign-up and coupons. Here's a list of other sites that claim to offer an advanced look at "Black Friday" deals:
