If it was known that Love would participate a reasonable line for him would have been (judging from what the lines for golfers seeded 1 to 4) something like 10 to 1. There is no way that the field bet posted line of 25 to 1 is a "good" line. It should have been more like 5 to 1 or so. Therefore the claim that this was not a fair line is valid. I believe the book's claim is correct. Of course they did not notice until pretty late which complicates things. However, the posted line for the field was excessively off.

Ive had my fair share of bad line experiences. I used to be gung ho and bet anything I can get my hands on. However through my years of wagering I've learned to work with the shop and ask if I felt the line was bad. However as a player that places 100's of bets a day my judgement sometimes differs from others on what is off vs bad. For example recently a shop cancelled a baseball bet where I bet -105 and he told me the line is wrong it was supposed to be -115. To me a 10 cents off cry is ludicrous but then again its purely subjective.

With respect to field bets, two years ago I bet the field (all seeds 13-16)in the ncaa tournament at grande at 500 to 1. I felt the line was bad so I called it in and grande accepted it. I would never bet something like that online cuz I wanted to make sure.
My ultimate feeling on bet cancellation is that a shop should never be able to cancel a phone bet. Readbacks should be final. Its a rule thats on every shops webpage but a rule that is often violated. Reason is that if the bet is a significant amount the clerk should call out the bet to the stage and the linesman will either except or reject. If the bet is not a significant amount to that shop then the clerk wont call the bet out and the shop wont get stung too much if it indeed was a bad line. Several shops like cascade and olympic practice this policy and I recommend for all shops to do so. Of course I also feel the player shouldn't be stalled too much either. But for me I'd rather be on hold for 2 minutes and know my bet is final then have someone cry bad line later on. Internet wagers are different as a shop wont have the opportunity to make sure all is kosher. I personally call 90-95% of my bets in.

BlueGrass sports took bets on who would win the World Series of Poker. The field was -280 which I thought was a fantastic bet based on what I anticipated would be an enormous field (which it was).

What worried me were two things:

1) They were adding new names. I would check one day and there were 170 names listed, then the next day there would be 173 names listed. WTF?

2) Some people had names like John Smith or whatever. WHat if another person with the same name wins (yes, this is kind of picky and small-time, but it's a weakness in the system).

Didn't bet it... it won of course.
