Is there a way to get a free room if you have never been to Vegas before?

Two things. First way is to deposit 10k in the cage upon arrival. Sign for your own money at the tables 1k at a time. Gamble at your normal pace, but this will get you noticed at some of the smaller places like Stratosphere for example.

The second thing I've learned is a formula that they use. The amount of time you spend playing at a particular game times your avg bet times the house advantage on that game gives a number that is your expected loss. You are comped 1% of that on avg. So if you play a lot of roulette, where the house advantage is pretty big, you earn more comps. Poker players earn much less. If you play slots for hours you can have anything you want, typically. Basically they want you to expose your dollars to their games for a longer period because eventually they will get the expected loss out of you if you play long enough. You can hit and run successfully of course, but few have the discipline to do so.

The guy probably doesn't have 10k available to wire, most don't. I wouldn't even want that transaction showing up !

I sure the Hell wouldn't stay at the Strat, middle of nowhere, bad hood, etc.

I don't want to be tied to playing at one place, to "earn" the room.

Stay where you want...pay for it,play where you want.

I like to stay at Golden Nugget, but I don't play there.

I would call up the hotel I'm interested in stay and ask to speak to a slot host.

Tell them that you are comped at a competitor of theirs but would like to give their hotel a try. See what they offer you. If they won't commit, tell them you'll accept a casino rate and upon checking out, you'll see what they can comp you.

If it doesn't work at one hotel, keep trying.

There are no free rooms in Las Vegas. If you gamble enough to earn a "free" room you will likely spend $500 - $1000 a night (or more) for your "free" room.

You can only get your room comped by a host if you book directly though the hotel website/reservations instead of a 3rd party website like Orbitz or Expedia.

Just don't gamble over your budget in hopes of getting that "free" room.
